Beginning February 1, 2024, Google and Yahoo are upping their email security game, and this could impact whether your emails end up in the inbox, get lost in the dreaded junk folder, or even get delivered at all.
It has to do with authentication - a standard that has been in place for over 10 years, but has been mostly disregarded.
So, what is authentication and why does it matter to you?
Authentication is like a secret handshake that your emails need to have to prove they're legit.
It proves emails you send actually come from your organization and aren't some sneaky phishing attempts.
This means using things like DKIM, SPF, and DMARC to show that your emails are the real deal.
Emails that are not able to be authenticated may not reach your intended audience.
Additionally, business emails sent using free domains (like @gmail.com or @yahoo.com) will no longer be delivered by Google and Yahoo.
There's a way to ensure that your emails bypass the email security changes and make it to the inbox.
Authenticate your emails.
It might sound complicated, but trust me, it's worth it so you can make sure your messages reach their destination.
If your email service doesn't offer an easy way to authenticate your emails, I recommend signing up for Constant Contact. Click here for a 60-day free trial.
They offer easy to use tools - including authentication using their servers - so you don't need to worry about the complicated tech stuff.
If you're already using another service, but are not sure what this all means, set up a free call with me and I'll explain it in more detail.
