We have two action items for you this week. Both are helpful to the construction industry.

New Underground Safety Board Design Regulation:

Forward this survey to any design or engineering professionals that create construction project plans. The Underground Safety Board (USB) is currently drafting a new regulation that will create an 811 ticket specifically for planning and design purposes. This new system will be different from the existing 811 process. It will not be required to be completed in 48 hours and it will probably cost a fee. The biggest difference is that no marks will be placed on the ground. The new process will be an exchange of information between utility companies and the company or person conducting the planning and designing work.

Please either forward this message or the following address to any engineers or designers:

American Public Works Association's Greenbook Seminar:

Secondly, the American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Southern California is conducting a set of Greenbook related seminars beginning on Monday, April 27. The seminars are intended to promote the proper use of the Greenbook, the relationship between the California Public Contract Code and the Greenbook, and address the use of the Greenbook as the standard specification for most public works documents.

Registration and the seminar schedule can be found here:

*Staff and consultants from the Southern California Contractors Association prepared and produced this document.
