We're washing our JNCOs in hot anticipation of an old fashion LAN party. What are we playing? Well, it's time for Retro Metro to recreate an early 2000s LAN party - with XBoxes, networking cables, and switches.

Come on out an party like it's the turn of the century with some classic Halo on the XBox.

Oh... and don't forget, we've got card games again this week, with a repeat of Codenames and Just One!

Friday nights are bumpin' at Fort Omaha! Don't miss out on all the gaming options available. eSports, computer games, console games, board games, card games - we're doing it all!

Some come on out, Master Chief, and play a game or two, make some friends, and just have some fun!

Or at least come out an make fun of our JNCOs!

Retro Metro: Halo LAN Party

Alright Master Chief, it's time to time warp back to 2001 and bring back a classic LAN party. Tonight, we're brining the XBoxes in to play the original Halo - Halo: Combat Evolved - completely in the style of the turn of the century. That's right: we'll have CRT TVs, LAN cables, network switches and the like.

Board Games: Codenames & Just One

We're excited to announce the addition of board and card games to our weekly game nights!

Join us as @Regelax runs two great classics: Codenames and Just One.

Codenames

"Two teams compete by each having a 'spymaster' give one-word clues that can point to multiple words on the board. The other players on the team attempt to guess their team's words while avoiding the words of the other team. Codenames received positive reviews and won the 2016 Spiel des Jahres award for the best board game of the year" (Wikipedia).

Just One

"Just One is a cooperative party game for 3 to 7 players, designed by Ludovic Roudy and Bruno Sautter and published by Repos Production in 2018. In each round of the game, players write down a one word clue for the round's guesser, who must figure out the secret word for the round. Identical clues are discarded before the guesser sees them" (Wikipedia).

Just One is the 2019 Spiel des Jahres award winner for the best board game of the year.

Not a board gamer? Come on out! This will be a great opportunity to meet new people and maybe learn a little bit about board games.

Smash Team Smashes Smash Competition!

Our Smash Brothers Team participated at the weekly Smash Tournament at Gamer's Oasis last week.

The bracket was highly competitive with talented players from across the state converging to take home the title of champion.

Our players fought valiantly but in the end, the challenge was too great... for now. The team is back at it next week for another change to claim their rightful place amongst the Smash championship.

If you see them out an about, wish our champions luck.

Casual Gaming (Game Night)

Every Friday at 6pm, the club hosts an open game night. These are themed nights (co-op, console, retro, etc.) with the goal of just coming together to play some games.

We are also adding a board/card game to each of these game nights to create a wide variety of gaming options.

Casual game nights are not competitive events, and we play a wide variety of games.

Casual game nights are free and open to the public.

eSports

Our eSports teams are our club's competitive teams.

eSports teams focus on specific games: playing and practicing with a competitive mindset.

We currently have three active eSports teams, with a fourth team holding tryouts later in January.

eSports teams require a student to volunteer to lead the team in the role of Team Captain.

Team Captains are responsible for recruiting players, finding competitions, and working with the faculty advisor to coordinate practices and competitions.

eSports @ MCC is always on the lookout for more Team Captains . . .

Valorant Teams

Team Captain: @Kagorah

We have two Valorant teams made up of students and community members. Our Valorant team is lead by the talented @Kagorah (Sarah), who coordinates practices and recruits new members.

Our Valorant team recently entered their first competition just before the holiday break. You can view the Twitch stream of the event here.

If you're interested in trying out for a Valorant team, or just have any questions about the game, reach out to @Kagorah on the club Discord server.

Smash Bros. Teams

Team Captain: @EOV

We have one Smash Brothers team led by Team Captain @EVO (Ethan).

Our Smash team participated in a friendly - if competitive - skirmish at Gretna High School in the Fall. The team is looking forward to more competitions in the Winter and Spring quarters.

If you're interested in trying out for the Smash Bros. team, or just have any questions about the game, reach out to @EOV on the club Discord server.

WoW Teams

Team Captain: @igertig

Our newest eSports team plays World of Warcraft (WoW).

The WoW team will meet:

  • Fridays, 8:30pm - 10:30pm (Classic Wraith, Horde)
  • Every other Saturday (beginning 1/7), 2pm - 4pm (Dragonflight, Horde).

The WoW Team is still accepting Noobs! Please contact Team Captain @igertig (Isis) on the club Discord server for details.

NOTE: The WoW Team is not competitive. The WoW team is about questing, professions, and the occasional dungeon.

Rocket League Teams

Team Captain: @Sebz

And, finally, our newest team will be our Rocket League team. Tryouts are Friday, January 13 and Friday, January 20 from 3pm to 6pm at Fort Omaha, so make sure to mark your calendar for this fast-paced, fun game.

If you're interested in trying out for the Rocket League team, or just have any questions about the game, reach out to @Sebz (Sebastián) on the club Discord server.
