Special Musical Service on May 12 |
Worship this Sunday, will be a unique celebration of the Easter season enhanced by special music. Chancel Choir will sing the cantata, Rejoice in the Lamb, by 20th-century English composer, Benjamin Britten. The cantata is about 17 minutes in length. It is a joyful, solemn, playful, mystical celebration of praise to God and to the Lamb. It is scored for choir, soprano, alto, tenor, and bass soloists, and organ. It is sure to be an inspiring service that you will not want to miss. Plan to attend now and bring a friend or two.
If you’d like to listen to a performance to prepare for Sunday, here’s a good one: https://youtu.be/t7Oxd6z2aDU?si=Ra-dKnwILMgf1kka
| We’ve enjoyed some wonderful special music throughout the year, including the Cantata to be presented on Mother’s Day. If you enjoy this music ministry, please consider making a donation to the Music Fund. You can do this by writing “Music Fund” on the memo line of your check or on the outside on the envelope with your donation. Envelopes can be found in the pews. Thank you. | SPRING CLEAN UP will be held this Saturday from 8 until noon. We are looking for many hands to make light work. Please bring yard equipment, marked with your name, such as hedge clippers, work gloves, garden shovels, and so on. | |
Pentecost, May 19 this year, is a day to celebrate the church, as it is and as it will be. In that spirit, a portion of worship will be dedicated to a Celebration of Service. During that time we will recognize the people whose service has made Northmont the community of faith that it is today.
Northmont has many groups that have made a tremendous difference in our church and the greater community: Stephen Ministers, Presbyterian Women, Northmont Delivers, and Knit Wits, to name a few.
We would like to honor those who have shown extraordinary leadership in these groups – long-time leaders who continue to serve, those concluding their time of leadership , or those who have led them in the past.
We also want to honor individuals who have done or are doing all of those behind-the-scenes-” things that are so important to a group’s success. These are the folks who may not have taken on leadership roles but who are always there lending a hand to make things happen.
If you have specific individuals you would like to recognize, please submit their name and their service role to Pastor Ben to be included in this segment of worship by Wednesday May 15. Thanks.

In honor of Mother’s Day, Northmont’s mission committee is accepting
donations for Hearth - North Hills Affordable Housing, in May. Hearth
provides housing, food, clothing, support services and childcare to homeless women and their family. Northmont’s late member Jean Stultz helped initiate Hearth in 1995. Please consider making a donation in honor of the special mothers and other important women in your life.
| We capped off a great year of youth group with a picnic at North Park with our friends from Hiland. |

Longvue Acres Garden Club Perennial Plant Sale,
Saturday, May 18, 2024 – CASH ONLY
|
Savvy gardeners have already marked their calendars for the May 18th Longvue Acres Garden Club’s perennial plant sale. The sale is a favorite with North Hills residents and held each year the Saturday after Mother’s Day from 9:00 to Noon – rain or shine – in the lower parking lot.
The CASH ONLY sale will feature more than 600 perennial plants including highly valued Pennsylvania natives and pollinators. Since the plants are grown in members’ gardens and donated for the sale, it’s always a surprise to see the variety of plants available from year to year. Avid gardeners will arrive early to snag the most sought-after plants that sell in the first hour. Club members, some of whom are Penn State Master Gardeners, will be available to answer gardening questions and to help with plant selections.
Plant-sale proceeds generously fund monthly educational programs for the public and support the maintenance of the UPMC Passavant chapel garden. Additionally, funds raised in the plant sale support not only the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, Botanic Gardens of Western Pennsylvania, and North Area Environmental Council, but also local community gardens in McCandless and Ross Township. Longvue Acres Garden Club meets at 7:00 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at Northmont. For more information about the plant sale or Longvue Acres Garden club, please contact longvueacresgardenclub1950@gmail.com.
