Health System Safety
This week’s news included reporting about a Winnipeg physician’s experience of criminal harassment. Intimidation and abuse are never acceptable, and we share our members' distress when incidents like this occur. Unfortunately, safety is a growing concern among physicians and health care workers in Manitoba. While stories do make the news occasionally, most do not. Our Annual Physician Survey earlier this year found nearly one third (32%) of physicians reported experiencing at least one physical safety incident in the previous 12 months, and nearly half (47%) experienced at least one psychological safety incident.
We want to work together to enhance safety and respect in all interactions with your patients. As we continue our advocacy work, if you feel comfortable sharing your experiences, we invite you write to us, in confidence, at practiceadvice@doctorsmanitoba.ca.

Health System Check-Up: Two Years After the Election
Manitoba's government has reached the midpoint of its mandate two years after taking office. A key pillar of their 2023 campaign was improving the province's health care system for all Manitobans and the physicians and other health care providers who serve them. We're taking stock of the progress, issues that still need work, and how Doctors Manitoba is helping to shape what comes next to ensure physicians' concerns are raised and addressed at the highest levels. We regularly meet with senior officials to advocate for physicians’ priorities. Please take the time to share what you have seen working well in the last two years, and what needs more attention and investment.
Let us know what you think of the government’s progress by emailing us at practiceadvice@doctorsmanitoba.ca.

More than 90 physicians have registered so far. Don’t miss this important opportunity to contribute to how the system can work better for you!

It’s important for all Manitobans to know that receiving vaccines for flu and COVID is a choice, and it’s a choice that doctors strongly recommend because they are safe and protect against viruses that can be harmful to you and those around you.
We are providing the following resources for physicians offering vaccines to patients:
If a member of the press requests an interview about vaccines, let us know! We can provide you with key messages and a brief media training session. Email us at communications@doctorsmanitoba.ca to set up an appointment.
