🍂 Hello, October!

October is a month to build understanding, celebrate identity, and strengthen meaningful connections. As we recognize mental health, wellness, and cultural observances, we’re reminded that compassionate conversations, early support, and access to care can make a difference.

Whether you’re checking in with someone you love, learning more about mental health, standing up against bullying, or making time for your own well-being, every caring action matters.

🌻 October Monthly Focus

ADHD Awareness Month

Build understanding of ADHD and the different ways it can affect everyday life. Encourage patience, recognize individual strengths, and support people in finding tools and care that meet their needs.

National Bullying Prevention Month

Help create spaces where children and adults feel safe, respected, and included. Speak up against bullying, lead with kindness, and remind those affected that they deserve support.

National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month

Encourage honest conversations about emotional well-being and reduce the stigma surrounding depression. Promote mental health screenings as a starting point for understanding concerns and connecting with professional support.

Health Literacy Month

Help individuals and families understand health information, ask questions, and participate in decisions about their care. Clear communication helps make services easier to navigate.

Hispanic Heritage Month | September 15–October 15

Celebrate the cultures, contributions, and experiences of Hispanic and Latino communities. Recognize the importance of culturally responsive care and conversations that honor language, family, and identity.

LGBTQ+ History Month

Honor LGBTQ+ history, contributions, and progress. Help build welcoming communities where people feel valued, supported, and safe to be themselves.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Recognize the emotional impact of breast cancer on individuals, caregivers, and families. Encourage conversations with healthcare providers about screening and offer compassion throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

đź’š October Awareness Weeks

Mental Illness Awareness Week | October 4–10

Challenge stigma and build understanding of mental illness. Share messages that emphasize dignity, hope, and access to compassionate care.

OCD Awareness Week | October 11–17

Help replace misconceptions about obsessive-compulsive disorder with understanding. Recognize that OCD extends beyond being neat or organized, and encourage access to appropriate treatment and support.

National Health Education Week | October 19–23

Highlight the value of health education in helping people make informed decisions. Connect individuals and families with understandable information and practical community resources.

đź“… Important October Dates

October 3 — Anniversary of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act

Recognize the importance of equitable access to mental health and substance use treatment. Encourage individuals to understand their coverage and seek help navigating barriers to care.

October 6 — National Day of Prayer for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding

For those who find comfort in faith or reflection, recognize this day as an opportunity to offer hope, compassion, and understanding to people affected by mental illness.

October 8 — National Depression Screening Day

Encourage a mental health check-in. A screening can help identify concerns and guide next steps, but it does not replace an evaluation by a qualified professional.

October 10 — World Mental Health Day

Remind our community that mental health is part of overall health. Make space for honest conversations and encourage support at every stage of life.

October 11 — National Coming Out Day

Support each person’s right to share their identity in their own time and on their own terms. Lead with respect, protect privacy, and offer acceptance without pressure.

October 15 — Global Peer Support Celebration Day

Celebrate the people who use lived experience to offer connection, encouragement, and hope. Recognize the meaningful role peer support plays in recovery and community well-being.

🤝 EMRC Is Here to Support You

Empowering Minds Resource Center supports children, adults, and families through therapy, medication management, case management, and community-based services.

This October, let’s listen without judgment, celebrate our differences, and remind one another that seeking support is a sign of strength.
