Support Your Local League

Giving Tuesday is December 2!

Due to the heartfelt commitment of our board, now through December 2nd, your donation will be doubled up to $5000. This is a great opportunity to make your gift go twice as far.

There's no doubt that the free voter services we offer matter now, more than ever. Your contribution will help us provide Sarasota County voters with the non-partisan information they need to make informed choices when they mark their ballots.

Trust in our nation’s foundational institutions, particularly government and media, is at a historic low. Modern technology, with its proliferation of misinformation, plays a central role in this loss of faith, but there is much more to the story.

Join us as we welcome distinguished reporter, newspaper editor and Dean Emeritus of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, Diane McFarlin. She will share her insights on modern information technology and helping us to become more discerning consumers.

The buffet lunch will include menu items for those with dietary restrictions. Cost is $35 for members and $40 for non-members. Reserve now! Space is limited!

Access and Affordability:

The Impact of Healthcare Cuts on our Community

Please join us for this luncheon presentation that will shine a light on the local impact of the federal healthcare cuts in terms of access and affordability.

Cuts to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are expected to significantly impact

Sarasota and the rest of Florida by making health insurance unaffordable for millions, leading to higher numbers of uninsured individuals, increasing

strain on hospitals and causing worse health outcomes.

The buffet lunch will include menu items for those with dietary restrictions. Cost is $35 for members and $40 for non-members. Reserve now! Space is limited!

Monthly League Update

This Zoom event is open to all members and is a great opportunity to learn more about our current initiatives and explore ways you can get involved.

The State of Higher Education in Florida

Since 2022, Florida legislators and postsecondary governing bodies have enacted a series of laws and regulations focused on the State University System of Florida, the group of twelve universities governed by the Florida Board of Governors.

To better understand how recent regulation has impacted the universities, members of the Education Action Team of the League of Women Voters of Florida (LWVFL) and the Policy Committee of the American Association of University Women in Florida (AAUW-FL) examined impact on governance, curriculum, faculty, students, and libraries.

AAUW-FL and LWVFL have issued a new report which takes a look at these recent laws and regulations. Jill Lewis-Spector, PhD, our Education Action Team Leader and member of the LWVFL board, contributed to this report.

Partisan mid-cycle redistricting manipulates districts and undermines our democracy, stifling the voice of voters.

The Florida Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting is meeting in Tallahassee on December 4th and December10th. The Florida League of Women Voters is urging members to attend in person or send a personal letter. Click the letter templates below for tips and examples.

Florida Driver License Changes: What to Know

An important message from our Supervisor of Elections regarding how these changes will impact your ability to request a vote-by-mail ballot online.

If you received a new Florida driver license after July 31, 2024 and did not opt to update your voter record at that time, it is strongly recommended that you update your voter record with your new driver license number. Visit the Update Voter Information section of our website for a complete list of options.

A very large crowd of citizens attended to comment on public hearings and the Phillippi Creek dredge plan.

Citizens in other areas of the County want their areas dredged. Phillipi Creek is not the only area that flooded.
