Child and Family Well-being

Hello Carolina,

We believe that all children deserve to have a safe and happy childhood.

Promoting well-being is important during the early years of a child’s life as this will have a direct impact on the child's mental health as well as their overall health when they reach adulthood.

Childhood emotional well-being and health has been found to be the strongest predictor of adult life satisfaction.

Childhood well-being includes the fulfillment of material, physical, affective and psychological needs. It is influenced by the level of safety in parental, familial, communal, and social interactions. For this reason healthy families and communities are very important for safe and healthy childhoods.

Healthy families, for example, must take into consideration the needs of each individual family member as well as the needs of the family as a whole. This requires that each person is able to find a balance between pursuing personal aspirations such as careers and studies, and contributing to the well-being of other family members.

Healthy families require more than the absence of discord; they need the presence of supportive, affectionate and gratifying relationships.

ADVERSE CHILDHOOD

 EXPERIENCES

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events occurring in the first 18 years of life. They can impact kids' health and well-being. They can have long-term effects on adult health and wellness.

It is important to learn about them because their consequences can affect families, communities, and even society.

Thankfully, ACEs are preventable. Creating safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments are critical to mitigate and prevent the consequences of childhood adversity.
