FLORA, FAUNA, AND FIRE
Tracking Australia's Recovery from a Catastrophic Summer

Devastation, melting field cameras, epic rescues, high tech koala location detection, recovery, and hope.
A fascinating interactive guide to what happened in the fires and what has recovered.

BEWARE THE
"IMAGINED PUBLIC"
What motivates homeowners to
mitigate fire risk?

US Forest Service social science researcher Sarah McCaffrey takes us on a mythbusting journey in her keynote address for the "Wildfire in The West Trilogy" from Stanford University

"Overall findings do not support most of the narratives about public response to fire management."

HOW TO LIVE WITH FIRE: WHERE IN THE WORLD?

From the ongoing Pyrolife International Symposium , we hear from Peter Moore; Forestry Officer Fire Management, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. In his eye opening presentation we learn about what's missing in the big picture of understanding fire globally and how we can help each other fill the gaps.

SCIENCE SPOTLIGHT

THE WILDFIRE WITHIN:
GENDER, LEADERSHIP, AND WILDFIRE CULTURE
This 2016 paper from IJWF is more relevant than ever and worth a review. The study found widespread occurrences of gender discrimination in the day-to-day practice of leadership, and that gender made a difference for wildland firefighters’ experiences of normative workplace culture. In their practice of leadership, participants described a trade-off between gender diversity and excellence.
