Dear Families and Friends,
Have you looked at the forecast?! It looks like we are heading into lows in the 20s early next week! And while it looks pretty dry, now is a good time to review our inclement weather protocols and communication plans. Inclement weather sometimes forces us to shift to a two-hour late start or a closure. If the decision is made the night before, we will communicate via email, text/phone call (this delivery depends on what you selected in your ALMA account), website, and social media channels. As you all know, we are on a hill facing the water. At times, this can create a slippery situation unique to our campus, which might require us to make a call that differs from Tacoma Public Schools’ decision. If the weather impacts us overnight, a few of us who live close by visit campus and assess the safety of the roads and sidewalks. I also communicate with the local private schools, including Bellarmine. The decision is never easy to make, and we always have the safety of families and staff at the forefront. We do our best with the information and conditions we have early in the morning. We then push out the communications mentioned above. Students and staff travel from forty-six zip codes to our campus each day, so if school is open but conditions out your window are questionable, please make the best decision for your safety. Just be sure to report to the office any absences or late arrivals. If inclement weather graces us this year, thank you in advance for your understanding of our process!
We are in the midst of a busy month with MAP testing in grades 2-8, the end of the first semester, report cards, re-enrollment, and ending the month with the celebration of Catholic Schools Week. I’m grateful for our Catholic Schools Week Committee and all of their planning efforts; be sure to keep an eye out for information about all of the festivities below.
St. Patrick, pray for us.
In gratitude,
Kate Chambers
Principal

Friends of Saint Patrick Catholic School,
Marlo and I are honored to chair the 50th Annual R.E.A.C.H. Auction and celebrate 132 years of Catholic education. R.E.A.C.H. is a golden opportunity for Saint Patrick Catholic School, and we are excited to welcome current families, community partners, and alumni. Please join us for our live auction, dinner, and dancing on March 8, 2025.
We chose to move the R.E.A.C.H. Auction to the Marriott Tacoma Downtown— a perfect venue for a large celebration! We hope to have 500 guests and raise $500,000. Our auction is one of the longest-running fundraisers in the Archdiocese of Seattle and the largest philanthropic effort on our campus, supporting operating, tuition aid, building costs, and critical needs.
This year's critical need is our Mathematics and Science Curriculum in grades K - 8. Marlo and I proudly announce that the curriculum enhancements will be our 2025 Fund-An-Item. We are passionate about our children's education and bringing learning to life in the classroom. Interactive math and science curricula are imperative to engaging each student and preparing our next generation of mathematicians and scientists. We aim to introduce research-based science standards in grades K - 8 and put principles into practice. Please join us in this effort!
There are many ways to get involved:
- Buy a ticket (or a table of 10)
- Sponsor
- Shop our Wish List
- Donate to the Secret Shopper
- Donate an item or experience
- Purchase a Raffle Ticket
- Volunteer (School families must dedicate 2 hours to the R.E.A.C.H.Auction)
You are creating a legacy at Saint Patrick Catholic School. Your investment in the auction secures Catholic education in our region. Your gifts of time, talent, and treasure are essential to our success.
Thank you for considering how this community has helped serve your family and how you will, in return, give back! We are excited to see everyone on March 8, 2025, to recognize this golden moment.
Sincerely,
Robert & Marlo Oesch

Celebrating School Choice Week
Thank you for choosing Saint Patrick Catholic School. National School Choice Week (NSCW) informs, inspires, and empowers parents to discover the education options available for their children.
There are a variety of school choice options available for many of the 1.6 million children living in Washington. Families in Washington can choose from traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling.
Every child deserves an effective, challenging, and motivating education. Because each student has unique talents, interests, and challenges, having various options in education is crucial. What works well for one child may not work well for another child! School choice ensures that each student can find a learning environment that allows them to be inspired, successful, and happy.
Check out the NSCW activity book; complete page one or two and email it to development@saintpats.org to be featured on social media during NSCW, January 26-February 1, coincidently also National Catholic Schools Week (CSW).

Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Leila Carlson, the mother of Sabrina in 6K and Coco, 3C. She is a school teacher, a Girl Scout troop leader, and a step aerobics teacher at the Center at Norpoint.
Did you know she climbed Mt. Fuji in 1999? What she loves most about Saint Patrick Catholic School is the wonderful staff. "I am grateful to have gotten to know many of them through my work with SPPA. During my term as president, my primary goal is to help build friendships among the families here. Our SPPA events are great for meeting new people and connecting with our school."
She encourages families to get involved in planning events and attend monthly meetings—it's a fantastic way to earn volunteer hours!

Mrs. Tessa Johnson '75 and her husband Barry enjoyed the Seattle Kraken game. Mrs. Johnson, our first-grade teacher, noted they didn't win, but they sure had fun.
The Johnsons won a pair of tickets in a raffle drawing for donating to Annual Fund 2025. The tickets were generously donated as a pledge incentive by RJ and Sandi Ryder, grandparents of a Shamrock student.
If you have yet to make your gift, there is still an opportunity to support our 132-year legacy of Catholic Education.
