FALL LEAF CREATURES!

Recently at school, we have been reading Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert and getting inspired by all the beautiful illustrations made entirely of leaves.

The children were excited to puzzle out what each leaf creation was: Cows, ducks, butterflies, and pumpkins galore! This is such a great practice of symbolic thinking (when we use one object to represent another). This cognitive ability allows children to understand that words and images can stand for things that are not present. An early childhood key to lifelong learning!

We can recommend this as a fun and easy project for families to do at home!

We have a new flyer!

Help us spread the word!

Don't forget!
We have some great

ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY

TUES, NOV 11 • 1PM & 7PM

Rialto Cinemas, Sebastopol

Special Q&A with Producer Lisa Brenner after each screening.

“The late, great Tony winner Linda Lavin (Alice) shines as an overbearing Jewish grandmother in One Big Happy Family, a big-hearted contemporary Bat Mitzvah comedy about mothers, daughters, sisters and the mensches we pick along the way to join our chosen family. L’chaim!”

- Thelma Adams, Rotten Tomatoes Top Critic

When a DNA test completely upends a woman’s life, while planning her daughter’s Bat Mitzvah, she embarks on a hilarious journey with her eccentric mother to find out who she really is.

This is the last film of two-time Golden Globe® and Tony Winner, Linda Lavin (Netflix’s “No Good Deed,” Hulu’s “Mid Century Modern”) who died a few days before its premiere at Miami Jewish Film Festival.

As we build our schedule for next year, we'd like to hear from you.

Thank you to those who have already taken the time to respond!

What a fun trip to the city yesterday to see Suffs on BroadwaySF at the Orpheum Theater!

JUDAISAM DECODED

6 TUESDAYS
Starting:

NOV 4 • 6 - 7:30 PM

Chabad of Petaluma

"Judaism Decoded" is an eye-opening course that will shed light on the mysteries surrounding biblical interpretation and crack the code of Judaism.

Who made it all up? Is Tradition legit, or just something Tevye sings about? Where in the Babylon did the Talmud come from? How did we get from two tablets to two millennia of debates?

Discover the sheer elegance of the "source code" on which Judaism is built. We will paint a whole new picture of our tradition, explored through novel perspectives and illuminating apertures. Peppered with stories, humor, and modern-day takeaways, and accompanied each time by Devorah's soup de jour, this is a course you don't want to miss.

"COEXISTANCE, MY ASS!"

Sneak with Q&A with Director Amber Fares, comedian Nato Green, and writer Adam Mansbach, moderated by Dawn Valadez!

SUN, NOV 9 • 2 - 4:30 PM

Roxie Theater, San Francisco

COEXISTENCE, MY ASS! follows activist-comedian Noam Shuster Eliassi as she creates a comedy show by the same name. Shot over five tumultuous years, the film traces Noam’s personal, professional and political journey in tandem with the region’s steady deterioration. Raised in a bilingual Israeli-Palestinian village — the only intentionally integrated community in the country — Noam grows disillusioned with traditional peace activism. She pivots to stand-up and quickly attracts attention across the Middle East. But as her star rises, everything around her falls apart. With biting satire, Noam pushes her audiences to face difficult truths that aren’t always funny but do remind us that another reality is possible.

More showtimes soon:

Starting Friday, Nov. 14!

TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

SUN, NOV 9 3 - 5 PM

Ner Shalom, Cotati & Online (Via Zoom)

Join us as we gather in community for Transgender Day of Remembrance in collaboration with Celebrate Love. This is a time to honor the lives of transgender people lost to violence, especially trans women of color who continue to be most at risk.

Our gathering will be a space of remembrance, reflection, and resilience. The names of those we’ve lost will be read aloud by Athena Rowan Gomez. We will spend time uplifting voices and stories of courage, as well as sharing our collective vision of a kinder world through listening, discussion, music, and community ritual. Together we remember, as we dream of a future where all trans lives are celebrated, and all people are safe.

This event is free and open to all.
Sponsored by the Ner Shalom Tzedek committee.

Light refreshments will be provided

Pre-registration is required for this event.

THE DIVINE DRIFT
With Leiah Bowden

WED, NOV 12 4 - 6 PM

Online (Via Zoom)

In “The Divine Drift,” Leiah Bowden, a Ner Shalom lay spiritual leader will guide us upward through a visualized inner journey into the divine realm where our souls are alight with understandings from which we often feel blocked. We will find images, words, memories, scents and/or sounds which will travel back with us as seeds for inspired writing. We will write from that more expansive perception and come away with love notes from our own souls.
