We Are A Matthew 25 Church:

Matthew 25: Did You Know?

AIR QUALITY JUSTICE

“Cancer Alley” encompasses 85 miles between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. It is home to 150 petrochemical facilities, plastics plants, and refineries. “Cancer Alley” is one of the U.S.’s deadliest regions, with twice the national average cancer deaths. Residents of this region are mostly black. People of color are over three times more likely than whites to reside in areas with poor air quality due to ozone and particle pollution. “Cancer Alley” illustrates the broader issue of environmental racism, where people of color are disproportionately impacted by pollution. The battle between corporate profit and human life is often fierce. Environmental racism and pollution have slowly been addressed. Changing our own practices and demanding better from industries is within our power to reduce our neighbor's burdens.
