PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Greetings NTMCA Members!

Did you know that July 3 through August 11 are considered the “Dog Days of Summer?” According to the Farmer’s Almanac, some say that it signifies hot sultry days “not fit for a dog,” That makes me laugh.

The phrase is actually a reference to the fact that, during this time, the Sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the brightest star visible from any part of Earth and part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog. This is why Sirius is sometimes called the Dog Star.

In the summer, Sirius rises and sets with the Sun. On July 23, specifically, it is in conjunction with the Sun, and because the star is so bright, the ancient Romans believed it actually gave off heat and added to the Sun’s warmth, accounting for the long stretch of sultry weather. They referred to this time as diēs caniculārēs, or “dog days.”

Thus, the term Dog Days of Summer came to mean the 20 days before and 20 days after this alignment of Sirius with the Sun—July 3 to August 11 each year.
June Meeting Recap!
Thank you to Mayor Trevino who welcomed everyone to the City of North Richland Hills.

I hear we had a great awards banquet. I was so sad I was unable to share this special event with you. It is so nice to celebrate the membership and all that you do and have accomplished over the year(s). We have such a wonderful group!

Also a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Christine for filling in at the last minute.

Don’t forget to register for the Professional Seminar this month! DEADLINE JULY 7th

TMCA staff and Executive Board members recently visited the Texas Capitol where TMCA's 35th anniversary of incorporation was honored with a Resolution by the Texas Legislature sponsored by Senator Beverly Powell. You probably see a couple of our chapter members there including President Nemer.

Alyce Deering Scholarship recipient Amy Shelley submitted a seminar recap for the June 17-18, 2021 – TMCCP seminar in Granbury. Take a glimpse into “A Potpourri of Essential Life and Work Skills--Don't Leave Home Without Them!” RECAP
Here is your Kindness Korner encouragement for July.

Have you ever had a bad day and your pet just knows it? Maybe you do not feel well and your pet sits beside you, on you (lol) or at your feet. Even our pets show kindness. We could learn a few things from them; such as listening to someone tell about their day, sitting beside someone who is hurting, holding a hand (throw a paw), give a hug. Pets ask for nothing in return, neither should we.

Have a joyful July!
Sincerely, Traci Henderson, President
