Did you know Hyperion’s President & COO Lou DeCesare started working in banking part-time when he was 16 years old, learning the banking business from the ground up?

Now THAT’s a longtime community banker!
FDIC Insurance
Your funds: Insured > standard FDIC protection
With Hyperion Bank’s access to ICS® and CDARS® programs, you can access multi-million-dollar FDIC protection by working directly with just our bank.
We leverage a network of member banks, enabling our clients to have large deposits with us broken into smaller amounts and placed with other banks that are members of this network.

Your deposits are divided into amounts under the standard FDIC insurance maximum of $250,000. They are then placed in money market deposit or savings accounts (using ICS) or in CDs (using CDARS) at multiple banks. As a result, you can access coverage from many institutions while working directly with Hyperion Bank.

You earn one rate on your investment and receive one statement for the balance remaining at Hyperion and another statement from IntraFi (our partner/this network) for the balance transferred to them, and, as always, your confidential information is protected.

This innovative solution ensures that your funds are insured above and beyond the standard FDIC protection that you already have automatically. Our participation in this network - which is not available to or through all banks - is another way we bring community banking to you.

With recent media attention about banks and the current state of the economy, this service is another great way to remind you that Hyperion Bank is positioned very favorably in the financial services sector. We continue to be well-capitalized. Safe and secure.

Visit our website for further information and please let us know if we can help you access this high-dollar-deposit protection or answer questions about it: 215-789-4200 or 404-381-2110 or CustomerService@HyperionBank.com.

Safety and soundness for your large deposits – at Hyperion Bank.

Offer of credit subject to approval.

Deposit placement through CDARS or ICS is subject to the terms, conditions, and disclosures in applicable agreements. Although deposits are placed in increments that do not exceed the FDIC standard maximum deposit insurance amount (“SMDIA”) at any one destination bank, a depositor’s balances at the institution that places deposits may exceed the SMDIA (e.g., before settlement for deposits or after settlement for withdrawals) or be uninsured (if the placing institution is not an insured bank). The depositor must make any necessary arrangements to protect such balances consistent with applicable law and must determine whether placement through CDARS or ICS satisfies any restrictions on its deposits. A list identifying IntraFi network banks appears at https://www.intrafi.com/network-banks. The depositor may exclude banks from eligibility to receive its funds. IntraFi and ICS are registered service marks, and the IntraFi hexagon and IntraFi logo are service marks, of IntraFi Network LLC.
An email recently sent to Hyperion’s Lauren Flowers…
“I just saw in the latest Hyperion Newsletter that you are celebrating your 10th year with the bank. Congratulations on that accomplishment and I hope you realize how lucky they are to have you. I realize that from the few interactions we’ve had through shareholder communications. Thanks for what you do for Hyperion Bank!”

James Beard Award winner has Hyperion ties
Nok Suntaranon from Kalaya Thai Kitchen
It was great to see Chef Chutatip "Nok" Suntaranon win Best Chef/Mid-Atlantic at the 2023 James Beard Awards. Suntaranon won the regional Beard Award for her work at Kalaya Thai Kitchen, which re-opened a much larger space in Fishtown last November. Its forerunner, in Bella Vista, was named Esquire's Best New Restaurant in America in 2020.

Kalaya – which we highly recommend! – was developed in partnership with Defined Hospitality. Defined Hospitality and one of its principals, Roland Kassis, is a friend and customer of Hyperion.

Congratulations to Chef Suntaranon, Defined Hospitality & the many other 2023 James Beard winners!

Community banks working together -
for customers & community
News story
Another local community bank – Tioga-Franklin Savings Bank – was recently featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer upon the bank’s 150th anniversary.

The article included quotes from Hyperion’s Charlie Crawford, underscoring the way in which friendly competitor community banks sometimes team up for the benefit of customers and the community.

We love this story for many reasons, noting two in particular: The writer/reporter noted that three people had told him he should look to Charlie as a source for the story, “so I thought I’d better talk to him.” We appreciate when our leaders’ expertise is recognized. Too, during a time when some consumers may be looking askance at smaller community banks, it’s important to note strength and longevity in the industry.
Toni Hughes
Balancing protection & compliance
with customer experience
Toni Hughes
Please help us welcome Toni Hughes, CRCM, Hyperion’s EVP & Compliance Department Manager. A banking professional in the Atlanta market for the past 20+ years, she has over 30 years of banking experience, having held positions at national, regional and community banks in Credit, Collections, Lending, Operations and most recently regulatory compliance.

“In addition to her extensive banking experience and familiarity with our markets, Toni is adept in a range of areas, including loan operations and credit administration, exceling at streamlining operations to decrease costs and promote organizational efficiency and excellence,” says Hyperion President & COO Lou DeCesare. “It’s a bonus that she has previously worked with other members of our team and understands the high-touch environment we foster for our customers.”

Toni says, “I enjoy the community bank setting and balancing consumer protection and best practices with the needs and expectations of the people and business who trust us to be their community bank of choice. I am a discriminating consumer myself and like being part of a team that provides the level of service I would demand.”

Away from work she enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and volunteers in the community, including with Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless and Toys for Tots. Welcome, Toni!
Representing community bankers – in two states!
Sydney Miller with Charlie Crawford
The bank’s Charlie Crawford represented us well at the recent Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers 2023 Inspire Awards, serving as a presenter in his role as the Association’s Banker of the Year last year. Charlie serves on the board of PACB, currently as Vice Chairman; he also serves on the board of the Community Bankers Association of Georgia.

He is shown at the Inspire Awards with Sydney Miller, USOA Miss Pennsylvania, of the Ridge Policy Group, who served as Emcee for the evening.

The same month – June – Charlie was re-elected to the Board of Directors of Community Bankers Association of Georgia (CBA). Nominations were announced and approved at CBA’s Annual convention last month. CBA was founded in 1969 to protect the political interests of locally owned community banks; it now represents 135 community banks and 150 associate member companies and is the state’s only advocate working solely for the interests of community banks and their customers.
Jill Jinks: We have a doctor on (the) board...
Jill Jenks
Beginning in 2021, Jill K. Jinks – longtime insurance industry leader and Hyperion Board member – transitioned into Chairman’s role of Insurance House Holdings, where she had served as CEO since 1996.

Never one to rest on her laurels, Jill also was in the midst of another endeavor: Pursuing a PhD at the University of Georgia, studying complexity and chaos theory. Dr. Jinks (don’t call her that!) completed that degree in December 2022. Her dissertation has since been embargoed, donated by her to the University which has filed for a patent based on Jill’s novel, cutting-edge approach to studying adult learning. Her work was inspired by the Sante Fe Institute at Los Alamos National Lab; it was the first research institute dedicated to the study of complex adaptive systems.

Chairing the board of a regulated financial entity and pursuing a PhD would keep some people busy enough, but Jill still found time to coach the UGA Sailing Club, a position to which she brought the unique credential of U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license.

Along the way she also helped establish a tech company in Mumbai; teaches sporadically at Stetson (where she did her undergrad), UGA – where she earned not only the PhD but also one of her three master’s degrees, and the University of Innsbruck on behalf of Stetson; and fosters boxers with Atlanta Boxer Rescue.

“I love being a community banker, watching the dynamics and staying in front of the social and emotional sides of things in addition to the economic, business and regulatory conversations,” says Jinks, who also was a founding board member of Private Bank of Buckhead in 2006. “We think about our customers – among other reasons because we’ve become part of their eco system – we think about our footprint with them, not just lending but honoring our impact on them in a way that we minimize it and are predictable. Bottom line: Our customers and business partners should never be losing sleep over us.”
