Irving Bunton is the father of Afriware Bookstore owner Nzingha Nommo. He was a musical giant who may be best known for showcasing the young people in Englewood High School's Choir in Chicago. Under his direction, they received superior ratings for eight consecutive years and were the first CPS choir to be cited 1st place honors in the Illinois High School Association State Competition. Since his passing in 2015, the Chicago Music Association (CMA) has held a yearly tribute in his honor. CMA was founded in 1919 in order to provide a performance venue for classically trained Black musicians who were traditionally denied access to major concert halls and opera houses throughout the country. Come on out and enjoy some music from some of the finest musicians around.
