Knights are Back-to-School
What a great start and we don't even have all of our students in school yet!
The staggered start was a success as it allowed our students and staff to form relationships in a smaller classroom setting. Next week we welcome our kindergarteners and preschoolers and then we will be complete.
There are still events on the calendar next week. See below. Feel free to visit our Back-to-School tab on our website for any additional information.
Below are some pictures from the first days of school.

Thank you for your patience with busing over the next couple of weeks. There may be delays due to traffic, pictures, etc. Kindergarten parents – Please remember to check your student's route the day before school just in case the time may have changed.
Please be sure that your Finalforms account is up-to-date with the correct address for your student. If you have an address change, please confirm with Transportation to reduce any confusion at the bus stop.
Visit the Kings Transportation page on our website for more information.

Kings Transportation Supports Knights
The Kings Transportation Department recently hosted two Stuff the Bus events and a Back to School Rally.
Our Kings Bus Drivers collected school supplies and backpacks and then hosted the Rally that featured face painting, free haircuts and braiding, food, and a dunk tank, where students got a chance to dunk their drivers in the water! They also had a blow-up obstacle course that was enjoyed by children and adults alike.
Special thanks to Michelle Smith-Landon and Sandy Carpenter who organize this event every year.

Ohio Bus Safety Traffic Laws
Stop Means Stop is a new public awareness campaign by the Ohio Traffic Safety Office to remind drivers about Ohio's school bus traffic safety laws.
Data from the Ohio State Highway Patrol shows an increase in citations to drivers who illegally pass a stopped school bus.
- In 2023, Troopers issued 735 citations to drivers who failed to stop for a school bus – an 18% increase from the year before.
- On average, Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers issue 627 citations for this offense each year.
Now that schools are back in session it is a great time to review the bus laws, especially new drivers.

Joshua's Place Supports Kings
Many thanks to Joshua's Place and Rivers Crossing Community Church for their generosity in providing over 200 backpacks to our Kings students in need.
The backpacks were carefully packed for each individual student based on their supply list from school.
On Sunday, August 11, Joshua's Place staff and several South Lebanon Elementary School teachers passed out backpacks and hugs to the students.
Special thanks to Susan Simendinger who organized the event and cares so deeply for the Kings community.

Kings Neighborhood Bridges is a non-profit organization that supports those in need in our community.
How does Neighborhood Bridges work?
School district counselors, the resource coordinator, and appointed representatives of Joshua’s Place and Beech Acres (referred to as “advocates”) will post needs on behalf of students and families to the website and social media pages.
Neighborhood Bridges-Kings works with key stakeholders in the community to engage all resources to help drive direct support and care to our students and neighbors in need. When someone can fill a need, they can simply click on the “I can help” button where the need is posted. They will then receive an email back with further instructions on dropping off the item(s) in the Neighborhood Bridges clear bin at one of our two drop-off locations: Kings Point Church or the Countryside YMCA Landen.
A receipt is given at the drop-off location by request. For items larger than what can be carried (i.e. beds, furniture, etc.), an Area Director will contact the donor to make arrangements. From there, one of our Area Directors will pick up the items and deliver them to the family in need. Confidentiality is never compromised.
There are some current needs such as families who need back-to-school clothing and supplies. Community members are encouraged to subscribe to Neighborhood Bridges-Kings to learn how you can help.

Kings & Ted Karras Hat Project
The District Spiritwear committee has been working hard this summer with Cincinnati Bengals Captain, Ted Karras and the Cincy Hat project, and we have an incredible surprise for Knight Nation!
We have teamed up to create some awesome co-branded Cincy Hat X Kings Knights hats in our school colors! This is the first time Cincy Hat has ever teamed up with a school district on a co-branded hat and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this collaboration!
Every hat purchased supports both KHS PTO and Ted’s charity, the Village of Merici; an organization that supports adults with developmental disabilities.
A limited number of hats will be available for KYO night next Friday, August 23 at the Castle when our Knights take on the Sycamore Aves. Find us inside the stadium gates and be among the first Knight fans to get this limited-edition hat! Hats are $35 each. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
Adult hats will be available to purchase and a link for youth hats will go live Friday, August 23 through Saturday, August 30.
As a thank you for the collaboration, we also have 1 adult and 1 youth hat personally autographed by Ted Karras himself! Watch social media and Knight Nation News for more info on how to be entered in the drawing to win one of these 2 hats!
For more information on how the Ted Karras Cincy Hat project came to be and to learn about the amazing people at The Village of Merici, check out the Cincy Hat website: thecincyhat.com.

Parent/Student Reunification
Please read this important information regarding District emergency plans.
The Kings Local School District takes the safety and security of our staff and students very seriously. As a part of an Ohio Revised Code requirement, the District is required to inform students and parents/guardians before the first day of school each year of our emergency parental notification protocols.
In the event of an emergency where an evacuation of the school building is necessary, we have identified off-site locations (reunification sites) to transport students to safety. In emergency situations, we will disseminate information through our All-Call system, as well as use email, text messages, website, and district social media. Additionally, we will continue to provide updates through the above avenues as needed.
The Kings Local School District believes it is as important for parents to know the resources the district will use in the event of an emergency. It should be noted that an evacuation from any given campus may cause your children to be picked up at a secondary location. If this circumstance occurs, we will utilize a parent reunification form to reunite you with your child.
We will ask parents to be sure that their emergency contact information is up to date in our files in order to be contacted in case of an emergency. Feel free to check your account in School Messenger for accuracy, as well.
A Reunification Information Document will be used in the event of an emergency where a reunification process is required. This document will assist us in releasing your child to you at the reunification site. Please take some time to fill out the form and put it in a safe place in your vehicle to be used as necessary.

Convenient Way to Pay School and Lunch Fees
You can pay your school fees and add money to your child's meal account on PaySchools Central.
The program also offers a feature for families to apply for the Free and Reduced Meal program. This is a "one-stop" site for parents to take care of all their students' needs!
If families are in need of assistance with meals we encourage them to complete a Free and Reduced Meal Application. If you are in need of an application, copies of the Meal Application can be picked up at the front office of your child’s school.
If you need assistance, parents will have direct access to a Help Hotline at 1-877-393-6628, where language services will be available for our ESL families.
Any additional questions can be directed to Jennifer Arlinghaus, Food Service Director 513-398-8050 ext 10027.

In an effort to be "green," the District does not send paper flyers home. We use a platform called Peachjar that houses flyers of community programs and resources.
Parents receive approved flyers via email, and they are posted on our digital flyerboard for easy retrieval. Any organization can distribute information to our community by creating an account!

We are looking to bolster our Kings Alumni database. Are you a Kings High School graduate or know someone who is? Please share the form with your fellow graduates. This will help our reunion committees and keep you updated on what is happening at your alma mater!
Please complete this Alumni Roundup Form.
