Hey Grove Family!
How are ya?!
Okay, so a voice that stopped Acoustic Alternatives' purveyor of pleasantries, John Bommarito in his tracks 18 years ago just put out a first full-length album.
John took Acoustic Alternatives to her studio for this one. Let's talk about it.
Eighteen years after John Bommarito first heard her voice, her first full-length album is out in the world. We're here for it.
Kylee Phillips Made the Album. Now Go Hear It.
Her debut is called Before I Am Invisible. She calls it music about love, heartbreak, identity and growing into yourself. The press release describes a woman who found the one place she wonโt be talked over.
Her own channel calls her music deeply self-exposing pop. Her socials say "sad girl pop music out of southeastern Michigan."
Honest. We like honest.
Why this one matters
John Bommarito, host of Acoustic Alternatives (mostly produced at Grove), says he first heard her voice 18 years ago. This was at least their eighth sit-down together. Thatโs not a hype cycle. Thatโs a friendship with a microphone in the room.
Her husband, and sublime guitarist, producer, and engineer Chris DuPont, sat in too, and John credits him with making the session sound amazing. This one happened at the DuPont Phillips studio space instead of Grove.
Are we a little bummed? Sure. Do we get it? Totally. Great music doesnโt care what room itโs in.
What she played (all four written by Kylee):
- What Livingโs Like
- Invisible
- Burning
- Storyteller
Four songs. All hers. Watch the session and see for yourself.
See her live Thursday
Kylee plays The Ark in Ann Arbor this Thursday, Oct 29. Check The Ark's listing for times and tickets.
Look, a good session on video is great. A room full of people hearing the songs live? Different thing. Go support local music.
The Grove part
Look, you can make a great record almost anywhere. But a lot of us hit the same walls: no space, nowhere to get loud, a clock running on every hour.
That's literally why we built Grove. The Deluxe Studio has a production desk, livestream gear and OpenLIVE automated recording, so you can capture a session your way.
Want to film yourself playing for the first time? Start there.
Book a room. Bring your gear. See what happens.
Watch the session
Her clips run on our socials all week, starting tomorrow.

Big dogs help big dogs. See her at The Ark Thursday.
