Samuel Machado, John Jay ’21, was forced to leave law school in Venezuela at 19 years old when he and his family faced danger due to political persecution. New to the U.S., he took ESL classes at Queens College while working as a dishwasher. After obtaining a specialized law and genetics diploma in the U.K., Samuel is graduating magna cum laude from John Jay and will continue working at a complex civil litigation law firm.
Samuel’s advice: β€œThe most important thing I can advise is to never professionally and academically aim low out of fear; always have faith in yourself and your capabilities.”
