Foodies and Aviation Enthusiasts Converge

at Kissimmee Airport Food Truck Fly-In

The City of Kissimmee Gateway Airport hosted its second Annual Food Truck Fly-In on September 14. The event offered a blend of aviation excitement and culinary delights. In partnership with the Latino Pilots Association (LPA), the event showcased a variety of aircraft, including several flight training planes. Participants had the opportunity to explore these aircraft and learn about career opportunities in aviation from participating businesses. Alongside the aviation exhibits, the event featured a selection of food trucks offering a range of culinary options, from gourmet dishes to international cuisine. Family-oriented activities were available, including a hydration station provided by Toho Water Authority with their mascot, Hydro, and MaxFlight Helicopters offered helicopter rides. The event would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors including GoJets Airlines, Experience Kissimmee, Signature Aviation, Aviator College, Lynx, Toho Water Authority, Kissimmee Utility Authority, and the LPA.

Kissimmee Gateway Airport Wins

FDOT Project of the Year Award

Kissimmee Gateway Airport has earned the prestigious Florida Department of Transportation's 2024 General Aviation Airport Project of the Year Award, which was given at the Florida Airports Conference in August. This award was granted in recognition of the outstanding Taxiway Extension and Obstruction Removal Project. The project, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and safety, involved extending the taxiway to improve aircraft ground circulation and reduce runway crossings. Removal of an aged aircraft hangar allowed the proper safety runway clearances and provided space for future economic development. The improvements not only elevate the airport's functionality but also contributed $5.6M to support the local economy. The award highlights our commitment to excellence and innovation in aviation infrastructure.

Operations Team Uses Magnetic Bars

to Keep Airfield Debris-Free and Safe

You may have noticed that our Operations Team has been driving slow at 5 mph back and forth on your ramp lately. It’s not that the hot weather is keeping them sluggish. We have a suspended magnetic bar that is an inch off the ground, attached to the front bumper, and it picks up any metallic fragments from the pavement. This helps to avoid any aircraft engine damage or punctured tires as aircraft are landing or departing on the runways. The magnetic bar can pick up miniscule shards of metal to larger pieces. We strive to find innovative ways to keep our airfield free of debris and the premier choice of airports in Central Florida.
