Teen Insights

Teens in grades 7 to 12 can earn four service hours by writing two reviews - each six to eight sentences long - about any program, service or item in the Carlsbad City Library collection. Teens can email their reviews to libraryteens@carlsbadca.gov. Visit the Teen Insights webpage for more details.

Read the following Teen Insights review about the young adult fantasy novel, "Powerless" by Lauren Roberts:

The story of “Powerless” takes place in the kingdom of Ilya, where years earlier a magical plague haunted the land. Of those who survived, Elites emerged with extraordinary powers, while Ordinaries, as the name implies, have none. The novel follows Paedyn Gray who is an Ordinary trying to blend in with the Elites while struggling to survive with her friend. After she is drafted into the kingdom's annual purging trials, she must fight to survive in a world that is built to kill her while also navigating new relationships with the royalty she is competing against.

The book's target audience is young adults who enjoy adventure and romance in a magical fantasy world. This is one of my favorite books, and I would recommend it to anyone who is beginning to read fantasy or who just loves a good adventure novel. I loved the underlying romance plots as well and how they integrated smoothly into the overall story.
