Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon
Less is more. We offered this wine with a similar Mail-in Rebate just over three years ago. At the time, and ever since, we have never seen such a frenzied response. With that original offer, we sold out of the 150 cases we had in two hours. I have been reluctant to put myself through that ordeal again. This time, my distributor has laid in quite a bit of inventory and dares me to sell out. My response was to be careful what you wish for. That being said, I am going to limit my pros, get out of the way and let the madness begin. A very good, highly rated Cabernet at a final cost of $4. You have got to be kidding me.
Los Vascos wines blend Lafite tradition with the unique terroir of Chile to create elegant wines that bring exception to the everyday. The acquisition of Los Vascos by Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1988 was the result of a careful search among more than one hundred Chilean wines for one that could meet the Rothschild criteria for excellence. Los Vascos Cabernet has always been our go-to wine for good Cabernet at a great price, especially at under $10. But at a final cost of $4 a bottle, that’s less than a liter bottle of Spring Water or a Grande cup of coffee.
From The Winery
The wine is made according to the traditional Bordeaux method. Grapes are placed in stainless steel tanks for fermentation under controlled temperature between 25Β° and 27Β°C. It is followed by 10 to 15 days of maceration, during which several pump-overs are performed to allow a gentle extraction of the phenolic compounds. The wine is then left to age for three months in stainless steel tanks in order to obtain its unique fruit-driven style.
Winemaker Notes
Deep and intense ruby color. The nose exhibits aromas of red fruit like plum and cherry, laced with notes of ripe strawberries, nutmeg, cocoa, thyme, and black pepper. On the palate, the wines features ripe tannins and good structure, with a nice concentration and persistence.
Accolades
A fresh, easy cabernet with light tobacco, berry, and hints of cedar. It's light-bodied with fine tannins and a crisp finish. Drink now. James Suckling 90 pts.

We thought we knew about this wine but were pleasantly surprised that the 2019 version of Los Vascos was, in our opinion, better than previous versions that we remembered. Fruit aromas of cherry, cocoa, a touch of black pepper. Medium weight on the palate with ripe tannins and good length on the finish. This is a real wine that you need to take advantage of. At $4 a bottle, how could you not? Although my distributor says we will not run out of wine, there may be delays in getting the wine to you as we are expecting a record response to this offer.
