2025 Yukon Trail

Scouts Showcase Their Spirit at the 2025 Yukon Trail

The high temperature for the day was just above freezing on Sunday, March 2 at Round Valley Recreation Area, but no group of youth is better equipped than Scouts to have outdoor fun on a frigid day. Representing every town in Hunterdon County, 178 Cub Scouts and 36 Cub Scout Leaders attended the Hunterdon Arrowhead District Yukon Trail along with 36 Scouts and 23 Adult Leaders who volunteered from Hunterdon troops to help lead activities.

The Yukon Trail is a Cub Scout-friendly version of Scouting America’s Klondike Derby, a cold weather challenge based on the history of the Klondike Gold Rush. For many, the Yukon Trail is a highlight of the year as Cub Scouts have fun and show their Scout spirit while they tackle challenges that either test Scouting skills or focus on teamwork.

Every unit that participated in the event received a ribbon for their pack or troop flag. The top three teams in each activity received ribbons.

Volunteers have already started to plan for an even better event next year. To make sure you can join us for Yukon Trail 2026 and to find out what other exciting opportunities Scouting has to

offer, visit beascout.org to find a pack or troop near you. Scouting programs are available for boys and girls K-12.

Dear Scouting Family,

As we journey through another remarkable year of Scouting, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you—our dedicated Unit Leaders, committed Parents, and, most importantly, our incredible Scouts. Your passion, perseverance, and commitment to the values of Scouting are what make the Hunterdon Arrowhead District strong, vibrant, and full of opportunity for every young person who wears the uniform.

Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, once said, “The most worthwhile thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.” That is exactly what each of you does—whether it is through leading a troop meeting, planning an outdoor adventure, mentoring a young Scout, or simply lending a helping hand. Through your service, you shape the character of tomorrow’s leaders, instill values that will last a lifetime, and create memories that will be cherished forever.

Scouting is more than just a program; it is a movement that builds leadership, courage, and a spirit of service. It is because of you that we continue to grow and make a difference in the lives of young people across our district. Every badge earned, every service project completed, and every lesson learned is a testament to your dedication.

In a special way I want to thank Troop 288, and from their leadership, Tesher Andres, who is also our Lodge Chief this year, Scoutmaster Chris Neighbor and their entire Unit for all their work in coordinating, planning and putting on a Great Klondike for 2025! In addition, I want to thank Cindy Barcholtz, Chris Boyce, and Bill Wallace for a wonderful 2025 Yukon. The excitement at both events was palpable. The Scouting spirit, lessons and memories made by both the Scouts and Cub Scouts reaffirms that Scouting is alive and making lasting impact on our Youth in the Hunterdon Arrowhead District!

As we move forward, let us continue to inspire, support, and uplift one another in the true spirit of Scouting. Thank you for all that you do to keep the Scouting flame burning bright in the Hunterdon Arrowhead District.

Yours in Scouting,

Chris Phelan
