President's Message
Dear fellow yogis of the Southeast region,

As we adapt to the new normal, we face many challenges, but our yoga practice is always there to support us. That’s why I am very proud of this community, many of you are offering online classes to share the gifts of Yoga when people most need them. To continue providing support to our local studios and teachers, you can find here the list of online classes available, I encourage you to try one of them and share these offerings with others who might benefit by joining any of the sessions.

Connection and communication are core tenants of building meaningful relationships, and thanks to the help of technology, we’ve been able to continue nurturing our relations with our family, friends and colleagues during this time. Just a few days ago, I had the pleasure to participate in a Zoom meeting with the other Regional Presidents and Membership Chairs where we exchanged best practices and ideas on how to continue growing and strengthening the Iyengar Community across the states. It was energizing to see how we are all connected by a common purpose and values! More on this soon.

One of the benefits that we would like to offer to our members are free online workshops, which will be funded by IYASE. If you are a teacher and are interested on your workshop to be considered for this initiative, please reach out to us.

Let’s continue to stay home and take care.

Much love and Namaste,
Mariana

Prop Corner
Parivritta Trikonasana
Revolved Triangle Pose

By: Rosa Lopez Santana, CIYT Jr. 3
Owner, Yoga Rosa studio, Miami, Florida

Rosa has had quite a journey getting to know Parivritta Trikonasana. She shares her impressions and and the lessons she learned on this journey in her article for our Prop Corner this month.

Excerpts from her article:

"This is a pose that I detested when I first began my yoga journey in 1995. It used to be painful, uncomfortable, and I would usually lose my balance and get frustrated. After 25 years of cultivating a healthy relationship with this pose, I can honestly tell you that we have not only become friends, but this pose has helped me over the years to balance my uneven legs, ill-informed hips, and scoliotic spine. It has become like a trusted friend, which guides you when you are experiencing discomfort, or feel out of sorts. I can also feel when I have stayed away from it too for long."

"Parivritta Trikonasana, the revolved triangle pose can be a challenge for tight hamstrings and backs, but with a regular and well-rounded practice of all postures possible, that will improve. This pose is great for relieving back pain, strengthens the hips, and invigorates the abdominal organs."

"I hope this little gift of tips can help you to cultivate a healthy relationship with Parivritta Trikonasana, as much as the chair has for me. I thank Geeta Iyengar for her persistant eagle eyes not letting me escape this pose in Pune, and Dena Glazer for teaching me soft ways to go deeper in my practice."
