Underwear!
By Jenn Harney

Dad's getting mad but Bear doesn't care because he's making jokes about underwear! Read it in your secret lair, sitting on your favorite chair, maybe even buy a pair. You just can't beat UNDERWEAR!   — Angela (RBB Staff)
MIDDLE GRADE
Our Castle by the Sea
By Lucy Strange

Pet lives in a lighthouse in England with her father, her sister Mags, and Mutti, her mother. It is the beginning of WWII and everyone is worried about a German invasion. Someone in their village is in league with the enemy, and it is Pet's German mother who is accused and sent to an internment camp. Pet must cope with her secretive sister, her stubborn father, and the strange man who lives nearby. She is a girl afraid of so much, and yet, she throws herself into the mystery and magic surrounding her, and comes out so much stronger. Although this is written for the 8-12 year old there is death, and estrangement, and all of the emotions that most adults have difficulty with; an excellent book showing us the true tragedy of war. Perfect for those who love The War That Saved My Life , by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley.  — Julie (RBB Staff)
YOUNG ADULT
Internment
By Samira Ahmed

Layla is incarcerated, with her family and others, simply because she is Muslim. In a camp under constant surveillance by camera, drone, and guards, where people are beaten and then disappear, most people keep their heads down and hope things will get better. Layla cannot. But she can’t effectively resist without trusting others. Can she trust her new friends? The seemingly-sympathetic guard? Her boyfriend, who lives outside in freedom? Taut with tension between high stakes and the need for action,  Internment  challenges us to think about a future that is just a half-step away from our present.   — Joan (RBB Staff)
ADULT
Stone Mothers
By Erin Kelly

In Stone Mothers what we learn is that we can never know a person. We may think we do, we may base our lives on what we believe about that person, but we can never know everything. Split into thirds, this story is told from the perspective of three different, and yet very connected, people. There is murder, and mental illness, all taking place against a rainy English backdrop. Marianne comes back to her small hometown to take care of her mother, Helen is brought into Marianne's life unsuspectingly, Honor is treading on the doorstep of insanity, and we only think we now what will happen . — Julie (RBB Staff)
