She is a girl afraid of so much, and yet, she throws herself into the mystery and magic surrounding her, and comes out so much stronger. Although this is written for the 8-12 year old there is death, and estrangement, and all of the emotions that most adults have difficulty with; an excellent book showing us the true tragedy of war.
