Chinese Tea Tasting

Saturday, August 8 at 2:00 PM

Main Library, Large Program Room

Learn about Chinese gongfu tea, its cultural significance and mythical origins, taste three single-origin teas paired with a Chinese dessert, and enjoy a guzheng performance. Chinese gongfu tea is a method of brewing tea with time and effort, allowing us to control the time, temperature, and quantity of the brew to maximize the tea’s flavor. It encourages us to slow down a moment in our day, to focus on what’s in the cup, and appreciate what nature can create.

Sunday Closure

Questions about the Renovation?

We know change can bring questions, and we want to make sure you feel informed and supported every step of the way. As August 13 approaches, our FAQs page has everything you need to know about the Main Library's temporary closure, from program locations and book returns to library card services and how to access materials while we are under renovation.

In the meantime, the Grand Street Branch is open, the book lockers are running around the clock, and your library community isn't going anywhere. We are so grateful to be taking this step together.

VEX Robotics Program

The future is being built right here in the MakerSpace.

This teen-led robotics program uses VEX classroom robotics kits to introduce teens and adults to the fundamentals of coding and programming, giving participants hands-on experience making small robots complete real tasks and challenges. Designed as a five-session series running through August, you are welcome to drop in for one class or come back for all of them.

Space is limited to 10 students per session, so registration is required. Come build something.

Staff Picks

Evil Genius

by Claire Oshetsky

Darkly funny and deliciously unsettling, Claire Oshetsky's latest follows a young woman whose obsession with tales of love and death begins to take on a rather personal dimension. What starts as a literary fixation slowly reveals itself as something far more calculated, a subconscious reckoning with the abusive husband she can no longer ignore.

Oshetsky writes with a sly, sharp wit that makes the sinister feel almost reasonable, and that is precisely what makes this novel so compulsively readable.

For anyone who likes their domestic fiction with a very sharp edge.

Your Fault

by Mercedes Ron

Starting university was supposed to be a new chapter. But for Noah, it means stretching a relationship that already runs on high voltage across new distances, new pressures, and secrets neither she nor Nick has fully faced yet.

Mercedes Ron doesn't flinch from the messiness of loving someone whose past is still catching up with them, and whose future isn't guaranteed to include you.

Raw, propulsive, and emotionally honest, this is a romance for readers who know that the hardest part of trusting someone isn't falling for them. It's staying.

Speed Reader

by Matthew Cody

Zander Fast has always been last at everything, last to finish his assignments, last off the bus, last to live down his uncle's embarrassing tall tales. Then a mysterious book arrives in the mail and suddenly Zander can't stop reading, or running, or saving the entire town.

Matthew Cody's action-packed adventure is a love letter to reluctant readers wrapped inside a superhero story, complete with a best friend, a trusty dog, and a villain with very big plans for Cape City.
