I'm working on my second Felix Cardigan and am excited to provide a hint sheet for our readers about using a splicing method that is usually called Russian join. (That's Simplinatural yarn in the color Grey Flannel in the photo. I'm really liking the color for this cardigan!)

I use this join when I'm changing skeins and find that it gives an almost seamless transition from one skein to another.

If you crochet, you might find that Russian join is the answer to working in ends that you've been looking for when doing the more openwork stitches that give crochet its charming look.

For me, this method works better with thicker yarn like worsted weight, but, honestly, once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to use it on other gauges of yarn.

PS I use a sharp, large-eye needle called a crewel needle to do this join. But give it a try with whatever yarn needle you have on hand. At least you'll see how clever this method is!
