What’s New at Linden Tree

Fall has arrived in the publishing world, which means a nonstop deluge of new books arriving at the shop, starting this week and going straight through the holidays. We’ve put together a collection of fall’s hottest pre-orders if you want to get a jump on things. (On the kids side, all the usual suspects–Dav Pilkey, Jeff Kinney, Stuart Gibbs, etc–have new books this fall.) And, as always, we’ll have them ready for you the moment they’re released.

Quick event updates:

Our September 13 event with Raina Telgemeier and Gale Galligan is sold out. We’re doing our best to accommodate people on the waitlist, but the theatre only has so many seats!

Our fall art workshops are also selling very quickly; if your young artist is interested in any of them, sign up now!

The story writing workshops originally scheduled for this Sunday have been moved to the following Sunday (September 13)

📚 Books I’m looking forward to this week: Katherine Rundell has two books out today (overachiever!) and, while the latest Impossible Creatures is already flying off our shelves, I’m most excited about her book for adults, Why You Should Read Children’s Books, Even Though You Are So Old and Wise. Rundell takes us through the history of children’s fiction and makes the case for embracing it at any age. I doubt you need to be convinced, but I think you’ll enjoy her persuasive, eloquent argument nonetheless.

We’re incredibly excited to welcome New York Times bestselling author James Ponti to celebrate the launch of his new novel, The Sherlock Society: Art Attack. James will be in conversation with Misa Sugiura, author of the Momo Arashima series. The Sherlock Society’s latest case is tracking down stealth graffiti artist Funky Munky—well-known for their artistic statements calling out local politicians—on behalf of a developer who wants them to create a mural for a new hotel. Their investigation leads Alex, Zoe, Lina, and Yadi deep into the very colorful south Florida art scene.

But finding someone who doesn’t want to be found is challenging, and it doesn’t help that Miami Art Week is coming up, bringing lots of attention—and lots of new artists—to the area. The Sherlock Society’s best bet is an elaborate sting operation, which involves them picking up spray cans themselves. Can they trap their quarry without exposing themselves?

Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with a special Sunday storytime, featuring local author Jasmine Fang as she shares her debut picture book, Beneath the Same Round Moon.

Pearl is eager to welcome loved ones to her house for the traditional Mooncake Festival dinner. But her family is spread far and wide, and this year they won't be able to travel to reunite over the special dinner. Her big sister is away at college, her dad is working as an airline pilot, and her grandfather, Yéye, has passed away. Will it still be a special day with only Pearl, her mother, and her grandma?

When NǎiNai arrives with ingredients, the three generations work diligently to cook dinner, bake mooncakes, and make lanterns, with each element reminding Pearl of the people she misses. On the night of the Mooncake Festival, they need to be creative in how they celebrate as a family, showing Pearl that no matter where they are, her family is still connected beneath the same round moon.
