JANUARY MOONLIGHT MIXER UPDATE!
IMPORTANT UPDATE
JANUARY MOONLIGHT MIXER

If we have learned anything from the past two years, it’s how to pivot! With that said, we believe it is in the best interest of our members and guests to move January’s Moonlight Mixer to a Zoom format. Attendees can meet the new members of the Board of Directors and hear the Chamber’s goals and initiatives for the year.

Make sure to stay on for small group networking opportunities and trivia fun! The winner will receive a complimentary booth at the upcoming Business & Community Resource Expo; second place will receive a copy of Encinitas Insight, a photographer’s journey through our great city!

Tuesday, January 18, 2022
5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Meeting ID: 836 8473 5854
Passcode: 500514

We look forward to networking in-person next month at InnerOptimal - Danielle Chavalarias and her team have lined-up a great program. Hope to see you there.
A Letter From Our Chairman of the Board:
David DaCosta
Welcome to 2022! I am excited to begin my two-year term as the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board, supported by a creative and diverse Board of Directors, CEO and staff. Please join me in welcoming Vice Chair Andrew Utt (ICA San Diego), Beatriz Jiron (Lamerca Company), Cyndi Darlington (Darlington Marketing) and Roueida Hobeika Matin (Foot Solutions). They will be joined by Treasurer Melaini Peet (Peet Fiduciary Service), Secretary Jon Kochik (SDG&E), past Chair Alex Meade (Beacons Point), past Chair Jim Benedetti (JPBLA Landscape Architect), Gabriel Rebelo (Minuteman Press), Scott McClatchy (WWM Financial) and Rock Swanson. I also want to recognize outgoing member Walter Bowser II for his many years of service to the Chamber.

We have many initiatives and events planned for 2022 and 2023 offering our members plenty of opportunities to get involved! Consider becoming an Ambassador and/or lending your expertise to one of our committees:

Membership (Jon & Melaini)
Business & Economic Development (Cyndi & Roueida)
Education & Networking (Scott & Alex)
Community & Government Relations (Andrew & Jim)
Resource Development (Beatriz, Gabe & Rock)
Environmental Sustainability

To prepare for the coming year, we had a fantastic Board of Directors retreat in late December creating a vision and action steps to create a SMART goal for our membership in 2022-23. Special thanks to new Chamber member Corryn Kivett from Evolution Room for facilitating our retreat workshop. The Chamber theme for 2022-23... COLLABORATE,  COMMUNICATE  and  GROW.

My personal goal is to grow membership by 100 new members for the 2-year term.  If you know of any business, new or old, who should join the Chamber, please send them our way!  I am here to support all of our members and will have an “open door” policy, but please have a ready solution for any problem that you bring.

I look forward to seeing you throughout the year.

Best wishes for a successful 2022!

David DaCosta

Vehicle Miles Traveled Tax Update
The Chamber's Economic Development Advisory Council and Board of Directors took a position to oppose the VMT Tax. This was made possible due to the Encinitas Chamber as well as 18 other chambers educating their respective residents and business community of the impact the VMT Tax would put on those who are affected. Mayor Todd Gloria states that he will ask the Sandag staff to find a different mechanism of funding for the Regional Transportation Plan instead of Vehicle Miles Traveled.
