Having finished the last chapter of our Study of the Book of Revelation, we have new topics to look at in the coming Sundays!

History of Halloween Forum

Halloween is just around the corner with all of its spooky decorations, candy, and fun costumes... But what is the relevance of this holiday to the church and people of Christian faith? This Sunday, October 20th, at 9:30 there will be a short presentation on the History of Halloween. Looking at this history, we will discuss how All Hallow's Eve can be a holy time in the church and explore its connection to the Vigil of All Saints.

November Book Study

Should Christians be politically withdrawn, avoiding participation in politics to maintain their prophetic voice? Should Christians be actively involved, seeking to utilize the political system to influence the levers of power?

During the month of November, we will be offering a book study on Jesus and the Powers by N.T. Wright and Michael F. Bird. In the often turbulent mix of political theology, scripture, and church history this book delves into what it means to claim Christ as king and have Jesus's kingdom the object of the church's work and witness.

Beginning on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 9:30 am there will be group discussions on the nature of political and civic engagement amid conflict, tension, and opposing views. Copies of Jesus and the Powers will soon be available in the book store.

Please donate either with a check or by bringing in hygiene items or food for the Crosslines Pantry. Items popular with the “shoppers” are toilet paper, toothpaste, and shampoo, which are usually completely given away that day we volunteer. Please donate!

Workers are needed on Halloween the 31st for either a full or a half shift from 8:45 - 2:00 at 3055 E. Division. You’ll be back home in time for the trick-or-treaters! Answer the call to help others in need!

Contact Nancy Terry if you have any questions.

It's an exciting week here at St. James as the long-awaited renovations to the children and youth rooms downstairs have begun!

Last week, 2025 Pledge & Planning forms were mailed to members of our parish. If you have not yet received one, plenty of copies are available in the narthex and parish office. Over the next few weeks, we'll be adding even more resources onto our new Stewardship page on the parish website. Check it out!

Stewardship at St. James

Mark your calendars, don your kilts, and prepare to Join us on the Feast of St. Andrew, November 30, at 6:30pm for the Kirkin' o' the Tartans! This annual service commemorates the Scottish heritage within our Episcopal Church tradition. The service, complete with bagpipes and followed by haggis (and other treats), is always a lively celebration.

Following Hurricane Helene, the deadly Category 4 storm that caused widespread damage throughout the southern US, Episcopal Relief & Development is working with church and community leaders throughout the region as they assess the impact, determine immediate needs, and support survivors. This work is critical, especially in the first week after impact, before FEMA support becomes available and longer term needs for debris removal, temporary housing, mental health support and other services can begin. You can contribute to this work through Episcopal Relief & Development by making a donation to St. James, either online or by check, with "Hurricane Relief" in the memo line.
