As we enter into a new school year and Autumn draws closer, take some time to look over the many upcoming opportunities to deepen your experience here at St. James!
Sunday Adult Formation
Our study on the Book of Revelation will continue through the month of September.
In October, we will begin a study on the history and traditions of Allhallowtide. Where did Halloween come from? How does someone become a Saint? Why do we pray for the dead?
Sunday Children and Youth Formation
Beginning on September 8, we will begin having Children's Chapel as a component of the Sunday morning liturgy rather than Sunday School beforehand. Following the Gospel, children up to 5th grade will process to the Children's Chapel for a lesson and activity tailored to their age group during the sermon in the nave. They will say the Creed together and have space to offer their prayers with one another before returning at the offertory. Childcare will still be available beginning at 9:15am on Sunday mornings.
Also beginning on September 8, Youth Group Sunday School will resume at 9:30am on Sundays in the youth room.
Parish Forums
On September 29, following the Bishop Candidate meet and greet events, we will discuss the role of the bishop in our diocese and why the bishop election matters.
On October 27, before our annual Diocesan Convention, we will discuss the polity of our diocese and the business of the Diocesan Convention.
Wednesday Nights
Beginning on September 4, we will begin having Wednesday Evening Prayer in the nave at 6:30pm weekly, followed by social and spiritual opportunities for all ages.
Children and youth will have activities that incorporate their lessons from Sunday morning formation.
Adults will gather for Spiritual Roundtables – brief topic presentations (like a 5-minute TED talk) followed by conversation. The topic possibilities are endless! Personal experiences of God, world events, food and culture, science, gardening, saints... the list could go on and on! We hope to learn and grow together through these conversations.
