Fillmore city committee
In February,
Many Mansions
met with the
House Farm Workers!
Fillmore committee, a group comprised of youth advocates from
One Step a la Vez
, to discuss the plans for their new affordable housing project. We reviewed the plans for āMountain Viewā, a Fillmore development that will include 81 affordable units. The committee also gave feedback on what amenities should be included in the project. We are looking forward to working with Many Mansions to support the project.

Rancho Verde
On March 28 we attended the Rancho Verde Apartments Groundbreaking! Rancho Verde will be a 24āunit multiāfamily rental development for farm worker households earning between 30% and 50% area median income. The property is part of the Hansen Trust Specific Plan Area.

CSUCI Cosechando Justicia Panel
On March 29, we participated in the CSUCI panel discussion āHonoring Cesar Chavez: Cosechando Justiciaā with staff from
CAUSE
and local filmmaker Julio Alcala. Program Director Alondra Serna sat on the panel, discussed farm worker housing issues and shared ways that the 40 participants could get involved in local advocacy.

Farm Worker Immersion Project 2018
On March 30
House Farm Workers!
and
CSUCI's Center for Community Engagement
had another successful Farm Worker Immersion project. This annual project has been made possible because of our partners
Reiter Affiliated Companies,
which provides us access to a local berry farm, and
Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC)
, which provides access to a farm worker housing development and a chance to speak with farm worker residents. This year, we were able to partner with the
Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP)
, which provided more information on the issues facing the indigenous community, many whom are farm workers. Fourty CSUCI students had the opportunity to learn about Ventura County agriculture, what itās like to work in the fields, farm worker access to health services and the importance of safe, decent, affordable housing for our farm worker community.

CEDC Snapdragon
On April 5, Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation and the Housing Authority of San Buenaventura broke ground on Snapdragon Place, Phase II. The 22-unit project includes 11 special needs units, of which four are designated for homeless veterans through the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (VASH) and seven non-VASH units.

Nopa event and donation
In 2017,
Nopa
restaurant in
San Francisco started the Civic Table Project, where they host dinner conversations on issues that impact all of us. They donate the proceeds from each event to a charity whose mission aligns with the topic for each dinner. On November 9, they hosted a conversation on Immigration. Board member Ellen Brokaw was able to attend and share her expertise on the issue of farm worker housing. Nopa and the Civic Table Project donated the $2,000 that was raised at that event to

From Field to Fork

On July 19, 2018 join us for a celebration of food, farms, and farm workers. This event brings together farmers who produce Ventura County's agricultural bounty, chefs who celebrate that bounty on their menus, and the farm workers whose labor makes it all possible.

House Farm Workers! has established committees in Ventura County. These volunteer-driven committees are the heart of the organization and have played a critical role in advocating on behalf of the farm worker community for the past 10 years. The city groups mobilize public support, engage public officials, and collaborate with other grassroots organizations to ensure affordable housing for farm workers.
