Notes of Joy - Week of May 30
Though the word trinity is not found in this week’s scriptures, today’s second reading includes the apostolic greeting that begins the liturgy: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit to be with you all. In the gospel Jesus sends his disciples forth to baptize in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. More than a doctrine, the Trinity expresses the heart of our faith: we have experienced the God of creation made known in Jesus Christ and with us always through the Holy Spirit. We celebrate the mystery of the Holy Trinity in word and sacrament, as we profess the creed, and as we are sent into the world to bear witness to our faith.

Thank You Letter From Karen
I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus....   1st Corinthians 1:4

Dear Friends and Members of Joy Lutheran Church,

Thank you so much for the fun and surprising “Send-Off” last Sunday after worship! I was so surprised and touched by the beautiful Quilt that was made and given to me. Not only is it beautiful, but it holds the names and messages from so many of you that will stay with me over the years ahead.  Thank you!  In addition, the donuts and many other remembrances were fun and appreciated!

Most of all, thank you for your prayers and support of not only me but your Church. You are the people of God at Joy Lutheran . You are important to each other and this community. You have been given worth and a call to mission by our Lord. Heed and enjoy that call!

The following was my Ordination scripture. It seems fitting to share as I retire.

“You shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”  Isaiah 55:12

In gratitude,
Pastor Karen Sonray

I believe I speak for all of us at Joy LC when I say that Pastor Karen Sonray has truly been a Godsend to our congregation. About 2 years ago when Pastor Martin left us to take a call in Virginia, it was hard to imagine what the future held for us. It was an unsettling time but in stepped Pastor Karen and she pulled us together and prepared us for our next chapter with Pastor Sean. This Sunday is Pastor Karen’s last day with us. We will miss her more than she knows but we are excited for her and her family as she begins her much deserved retirement. We wish her only the best and hope she is not a stranger as her new life unfolds.  You will be in our prayers, Karen, please remember us in yours.

Mask Up Through May
Worship service should be a place where you feel safe and included. The CDC guidelines state that fully vaccinated people do not need to wear masks in certain circumstances, however many of our children are not eligible for the vaccines or are not fully vaccinated at this time.  Joy has weathered this pandemic extremely well. Let’s remain diligent a bit longer to ensure the safety and peace of mind for all that join us for worship. Therefore we will require masks through May and reevaluate the situation in June.
JUNE 5th

Let’s greet our new pastor with a clean and organized building. A to-do list of needed projects for both inside and outside is posted in the Narthex and thru the below link. Not everything will get done in one day but with many hands working together we can accomplish a lot. If it works better for your schedule, look at the list of projects and take one on when it works best for your schedule.  Let’s challenge ourselves to cross off a majority of these by July 5th, Pastor Sean’s first day.

Joy Lutheran has become known for our Electronic Recycling events. Total Reclaim is partnering with us and will be accepting electronics between 10-1. There is a small fee depending on items to be recycled.

Ordination of Sean Avery

6:30 PM

If you are in the area and would like to represent Joy Lutheran, please let Sue Weimer know. It will also be streamed live.
Church Directories are Ready!
Thank you for getting to us your photos.  Please pick up a Church Directory at Church on Sundays or at the Church during Office Hours. One per household. Do not share the information with people outside of our fellowship or use for commercial purposes.
Please call any Church Council Member and they will reach a Pastor for you. Do not hesitate to call! We have three pastors willing to help us during this time before Pastor Sean arrives in case of a pastoral care concern.
Name Tags
There are new Name Tags to wear for Sunday morning. They are on the wall next to the water fountain. A big thank you to Corrine Finnie for working on this project. If your name is missing or spelled wrong, please let her know! The plan is that we start wearing them in June to be accustomed to the pattern. This will help our new Pastor get to know us when he arrives July 5th! And it is a help to all of us.
