Notes of Joy - Week of September 12
This Week's Gospel: Mark 8:27-38
Three weeks ago we heard Peter’s confession of faith as told in John’s gospel. This week we hear Mark’s version, when Peter says, “You are the Messiah.” In John, the stumbling block is Jesus’ invitation to eat his flesh, given for the life of the world. In Mark too the scandal has to do with Jesus’ words about his own coming death, and here Peter himself stumbles over Jesus’ words. But Jesus is anointed (the meaning of messiah) in Mark only on the way to the cross (14:3); so we are anointed in baptism with the sign of the cross.

Sew for Joy Group
We are excited to be back together and at our sewing machines! We will meet on Friday, September 17 at 10:00am in the upper narthex to discuss our meeting plans and projects going forward. We have two quilt kits projects planned so far. Please contact Mona Mitton, Nancy Daugherty or Debby Bird if you have any questions.
Saturday Morning Work Group
We will gather the third Saturday, September 18 (not our usual second Saturday date this month). We'll start at 9:00am and go no later than 11:30.

Everyone is welcome! No breakfast will be served but the coffee will be on. Masks will be worn for close proximity tasks. We change furnace filters, light bulbs, organize areas within the building, trim lawn and landscaping (weather permitting), repair any misc. items needing attention, etc. See you there!
Joy of Reading Book Club
Our book club meets the 3rd Monday of the month.  We have a great group and it is a wonderful social time – lots of good conversation and laughter.  We welcome any and all who would like to come.  You don’t even have to read the book!

The next meeting will be September 20th at 6:30 PM.  Mona Mitton will be hosting.  If you have questions or would like more info, please call Mona or the church office at 694-9601.

Request for Car
The Kotlarchuk family is looking to buy a small, reliable used vehicle to use around town. It is tough time to find used vehicles so we would appreciate if anyone hears of something available in the $5,000-$7,000 price range to contact us at 907-726-4498.
Heather Slocum
Heather is one of our worship warriors in the background bringing the live worship feed and video to Facebook every week.

Thank you, Heather!

Shhhh.... there's still a sliver of summer yet, BUT the Thanksgiving Blessing Planning Committee has already started working on this year’s event. At this time we are anticipating it will be a drive-up event like last year. The committee has ordered 400 turkeys. (If you remember, we ran out of turkeys (300) very early last year!) Financial contributions for roasting pans, dinner rolls and additional turkeys are also greatly appreciated. Joy Lutheran has been asked to collect 300 cans each of carrots and peas.
