WHERE DO FARMERS GET INFORMATION?

A client recently requested our insights on where producers get their information. Ann attended a meeting of the Iowa Chapter of the National Agri-Marketing Association last month and the topic was Farmers’ Use of Media. Providence? Maybe!

Speakers from Successful Farming magazine, Readex Research, and the National Association of Farm Broadcasters shared results of annual and bi-annual surveys to examine this important question. Here are a few high level take aways from their presentations:

  1. Traditional media – print and radio – remain relevant and strong
  2. Younger farmers use more digital media though they are still aligned with traditional media and more mature farmers are not technology averse
  3. Podcasts are growing in popularity, however, having your message on an established, third-party podcast is better than a company-driven one
  4. For social media, Facebook wins
  5. Videos are powerful now and will grow in impact with YouTube very popular resource
  6. Marketers need to use a mix of media to be successful in sharing their message

As you anticipate 2023 and the ways to tell your story, remember to mix it up! Reliance on any one media platform will not deliver your information to your intended audience. Your Team HMG will work with you to package your message in a variety of mediums, so you get the best reach for your investment.

YOUR TEAM HMG AND NAFB - HELPING CLIENTS TELL THEIR STORIES

Barb and Ann spent a productive few days at the NAFB Annual Meeting in Kansas City last week. Trade Talk was a great success for our customers Swine Health Information Center and National Pork Producers Council. Experts from both organizations took part in dozens of interviews. Their messages will be shared far and wide by outstanding farm broadcasters, heard by America's producers.

Barb (far left) coordinates with (l to r) NPPC CEO Bryan Humphreys, Assistant VP of Communications Annemarie Pender, and President Terry Wolters during Trade Talk.

Midwest Farm Report’s Stephanie Hoff interviews SHIC Executive Director Dr. Paul Sundberg with coverage to air in their Wisconsin-based market.

During her first Trade Talk, SHIC Associate Director Dr. Megan Niederwerder (l) talked with Hannah Pagel (r) of AgriPulse, a nationally syndicated farm network.
