You can do the six StartUp movements at the beginning of the day to help the children get ready for learning. You can also do these movements after recess or to help with transitions between activities.
You can use the movements with the whole group to prepare them for the next activity. For example, if it is story time, then you can do the Koala Cub to help them listen and the Duckling to help them focus. You can also ask a child to do a movement on their own if you notice that they are struggling with the lesson that the class is doing, like tracing letters or numbers or having trouble holding a crayon.
If one or more children are hyperactive, you can ask them to do the Skunk, the Toucan and/or the Bear Cub to help calm and slow them down.
Anytime you notice that movement might help you can do BrainMoves. You can also use the BrainMoves coloring pages and animal stories to offer activities to help the class feel ownership of the movements and to make them their own.
It is easy to work the BrainMoves Movements into your day. Each movement takes a minute or less to do.
