Don't Miss These Exhibitions at the Oakland Museum of California Before They Close

Ancestral Visions: An Installation by Chelsea Ryoko Wong

Bay Area artist Chelsea Ryoko Wong transforms vintage dresses from six 20th-century Chinese American women into vibrant, imaginative paintings that explore how fashion carries forward personal and cultural identity. Her new OMCA installation pairs these energetic works with the actual garments that inspired them, inviting visitors to consider how clothing becomes a bridge between generations and a powerful form of self-expression.

Students on Strike

The installation draws powerful parallels between the historic 1968-1969 San Francisco State University strike that created the nation’s first Black Studies Department and recent campus protests against the war in Gaza. Through compelling posters and photographs, this intimate exhibition reveals how student activism continues to demand justice and institutional accountability across generations, inviting visitors to connect local history with today’s headlines.
