Navadhanya (an assortment of 9 grains) holds immense significance in Hindu culture, serving as a symbol of abundance, prosperity, and spiritual fulfillment. The offering of nine grains is not only a gesture of devotion but also a reflection of the interconnectedness of life and the divine. The nine grains commonly used are wheat, rice, mung beans, chickpeas, sesame seeds, black gram, horse gram, pigeon pea, and hyacinth bean.
Breaking of coconuts, lighting of incense sticks, and use of Haldi (Turmeric) and Kumkum (Vermillion) is also part of the Puja ritual. These are used to symbolize purity, prosperity, and protection to help ward off negative energy.
The components of a Puja vary greatly according to the community and region in India.
