Beginning in September 2002 and each year since, we have created a series of 30-second features in remembrance of 9/11. In the early years they encouraged support of our troops engaged in fighting terrorism abroad. Later they focused on America's resilience, rebuilding efforts at home and abroad, and volunteerism. Most recently our features have honored the work of first responders in communities throughout the USA.This year's features invite listeners to recall where they were on 9/11 twenty years ago, the values that were exhibited in the months and years following the attacks, highlights related to Patriot Day - and a call to remember the values we hold in common.

“We sold sponsorships of the Patriot Day features to a pharmacy, an HVAC business, a plumbing company, two insurance agencies, and our local Walmart. Just playing the demo for clients left some of them teary-eyed and asking, ‘Do you remember where you were that day?’ We offered three different ad packages as you suggested, and very few took the lowest-priced option; most of them took the medium or high option.” - Kelly Dillner, SM, KACY/102.5 The River, Arkansas City, KS
“We sold 14 sponsorships with Patriot Day (September 11th remembrance); it was pretty crazy – we got two liquor stores, lots of auto repair places, a pharmacy, a chiropractor, a GNC, one bar, one spa. We sold 11 last year, and our goal was one more than that.” - Sabrina Lynn, station manager, WBBV/KLSM/KSBU, Vicksburg, MS
As kids head back to the classroom this fall, business owners and community leaders will gladly partner with your station as sponsors of these timely safety messages and success tips.
"We sold the back-to-school sponsorship for $23,400 to one sponsor. It was definitely a slam dunk.” - Annette Fisher, GSM, Summit Media, Springfield, MO

I had not tuned in to the news that Tuesday morning. It was the day we had our monthly staff breakfast meeting at Denny's, so I was preoccupied with that.
But when I stopped at the station before the meeting, things were different. Frenetic. "There's been an attack on the World Trade Center," Larry said on his way toward the studio, attempting to coordinate coverage of the terrible events unfolding in New York and Washington, D.C.
I drove back home rather unsettled, turned on the TV, and sat there with my family, watching in disbelief. The jet attacks, the buildings burning, collapsing—one shocking sequence after another replayed again and again from different angles.
We could scarcely believe what we were seeing and hearing. Bewilderment gave way to sorrow and anger, helplessness and frustration. We cried, we prayed for the victims and for our nation, and tried in vain to make sense of it all.
Twenty years later...
So much has transpired. We responded so magnificently in the weeks and months following 9/11! Because we responded as Americans—united and determined to help in any way we could. Sadly, today we seem to experience increasing conflicts and divisiveness as we deal with the pandemic.
It is our hope that the features we're offering to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks will serve to remind your listeners of the true and historic greatness of our nation: love of freedom, cooperation, generosity, industry, innovation, sacrifice for the greater good, and simply doing the work required of a free people whom God has so richly blessed.
Thanks, as always, for your friendship and consideration.
Respectfully,
Rod
P.S. If you're willing to take a moment to share your own memories and reflections on 9/11, we'd love to hear from you.

According to Western Producer, radio is the preferred companion to farmers working in their fields. These 30-second features are a great way for ag suppliers to salute their customers during long days of harvest and fall work.
These 30-second safety messages raise awareness of common farm hazards and promote safe practices. Run them anytime, especially during National Farm Safety Week, September 19-25.
