FAU Engineering Lands U.S. DOD Grant for Testing Connected AI Autonomy


Florida Atlantic University's Center for Connected Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence has secured $799,759 grant from the United States Department of Defense. The grant will fuel the development of a cutting-edge platform for computational test and evaluation of connected AI autonomy, solidifying FAU’s role as a national leader in next-gen networked AI autonomous systems research.

Great White Spotted in Boynton Beach Inlet


A great white shark photobombed a nurse shark that Florida Atlantic researchers had equipped with a lightweight camera tag designed to collect video footage from a shark's-eye point of view. The two sharks were near the Donny Boy Slipe Reef, an artificial reef and popular dive site, when the camera recorded the four-minute interaction.

FAU's Innovation Leaders Selected for Inaugural Ecosystem


Florida Atlantic University recently announced Kevin Cox, senior instructor and director, Adams Center for Entrepreneurship, and Regina Thompson, assistant director of strategic and economic initiative, Florida Atlantic Wave, were selected as VentureWell Ecosystem Futures Fellows for the inaugural 2025 cohort. This national fellowship recognizes faculty and higher education leaders dedicated to strengthening STEM innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems.

 

The fellowship, funded by the Lemelson Foundation, provides fellows with immersive programming, funding and a vibrant community of practice to build long-term change in STEM ecosystems.

New Associate Dean

for College of Nursing


Candy Wilson, Ph.D., APRN, WHNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, was appointed associate dean for research and scholarship for the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. 

 

Wilson, professor, is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and dedicated women's health nurse practitioner with more than 30 years of service. Throughout her distinguished military career, she secured more than $18 million in federal research funding and authored 53 peer-reviewed publications. Her research has influenced the U.S. Congress, Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, and other federal leaders.

 

Wilson honorably served in the active duty U.S. Air Force and retired in 2022. Focusing on overseas deployments, she provided women’s health care in Afghanistan villages for more than 3,000 women and children in seven villages living in austere conditions.
