Discovery of a Multi-functional Human Acid

In a study published in the journal  Brain, Behavior and Immunity , Ning Quan, Ph.D., a professor of biomedical science in FAU’s Schmidt College of Medicine and a member of the Brain Institute, and collaborators, have discovered that hyaluronic acid may be the key in how an immune signal moves from the blood stream to the brain, activating the brain’s resident immune cells . 'Mocking-type' Parenting Can Result in Adolescent Bullying

Olivia Valdes, Ph.D. student in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science is a co-author on a study published in the Journal of Youth and Adolescence . The research looks at how 'mocking' parenting fosters emotional dysregulated anger in adolescent children, causing difficulties in regulating emotion, resulting in negative emotions, verbal and physical aggression and hostility. Discussing Delirium

About 30 community members gathered at the Boca Raton Public Library last week to listen to Deborah D'Avolio, Ph.D., associate professor in the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, present "What is Delirium, and Why Do I Need to Know?"

D'Avolio's talk was the latest in the monthly Research in Action series. The next talk, slated for Aug. 15, will bring Christine Spadola, Ph.D., assistant professor in the College of Design and Social Inquiry, discussing "Sleep: Why We Need it and How to Get it."
