Close Encounters with FAU Research
FAU's inaugural Research Encounter last week saw more than 300 attendees come through the doors of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute to visit 12 stations of hands-on exhibits highlighting research happening across the university.
Attendees learned about Astro, a robotic dog, flew drones through hoops, saw brain waves and met Fenway, a real-life canine who provides assistance to wounded warriors.

Algal Blooms Potential Health Impacts
Researchers from the FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute and the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing along with other collaborators recently detected an airborne exposure of microcystin, a class of toxins produced by blue-green algae species, in the nasal passages of 95 percent of the individuals tested.
The study is part of ongoing research at HBOI's Center for Coastal and Human Health efforts to understand and protect against the potential health effects of harmful algal blooms.

Teens Digital Dating Abuse
Sameer Hinduja, Ph.D., a professor in the College for Design and Social Inquiry, conducted a new study that showed more than 28 percent of teens in a romantic relationship were, at one point, victims of digital dating abuse.
The results also pointed to males being significantly more likely to experience digital dating abuse compared to females.
