Pioneer Work in Autonomous Machine-to-Machine Communication

Autonomous machine-to-machine communication is driving the next industrial revolution, combining our physical, digital and biological worlds. Dimitris Pados, Ph.D., department of computer and electrical engineering and computer science, Charles E. Schmidt Eminent Scholar in Engineering and Computer Science and I-SENSE Fellow, talks about how FAU is providing the infrastructure and leading the way for this new autonomous communications system. Marine Compounds Have Potential to Treat Breast Cancer

Researchers from FAU's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) have received $801,000 from the Florida Department of Health's Bankhead Coley Cancer Research Program to investigate the use of marine natural compounds as potential treatments of triple negative breast cancers. READ MORE .

Voice Disorders Impact Listeners

FAU researchers recently co-conducted a study to determine if there are differences in speech intelligibility (ability of a listener to hear a speaker's message) in healthy voices compared to those who have voice disorders such as breathiness, hoarseness, loss of voice or a “croaky” voice. The results, published in the Journal of Voice , show that speakers with voice disorders demonstrated a tenfold increase in the number of speech intelligibility errors compared to speakers with healthy voices. Unlock the Power of FAU's Research Hub

Connect, collaborate and find research funding by joining the hundreds of faculty and students who have signed up for the FAU Research Hub.

The hub is a new web and mobile platform that connects researchers with students, collaborators and funding opportunities. Investigators are encouraged to post projects in just minutes.  LEARN MORE .
Featured Book of the Week
John Samuel Faulkner, Ph.D., Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, recently co-authored a book, Multiple Scattering Theory: Electronic Structure of Solids, that collates the results of numerous studies in the field of multiple scattering theory and provides a comprehensive, systematic approach to it.

Published a Book?
The research communications team wants to hear about your recently published (after November 2018) book, book chapter or co-authored book or book chapter, for possible inclusion in the upcoming Owl Research & Innovation magazine and/or newsletter . Submit your information here.
