Preserving Diversity in Oceanlife: Malcolm McFarland
Editor's Note: In the Lab is a series that highlights researchers' journeys. Look for their stories inside your newsletter periodically.
Malcolm McFarland, Ph.D., a research associate at FAU’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) is at the forefront of the ongoing effort to detect new toxic algal blooms and develop ways of combating them.
He specializes in the study of marine phytoplankton populations in both saltwater and freshwater environments. He is also a part of the HBOI team that is developing a revolutionary new underwater holographic microscope under a major multi-year grant from the National Science Foundation.
