Welcome Back, Everyone!
Justine Wollaston on "Staying Unstuck: How to Evolve With Art"
Wednesday, Sept. 1
VAST Meetings take place at the (PAAC)
Patterson-Appleton Arts Center
400 E. Hickory St., Denton, TX
September 1, 6:45-8:30pm

Join us for our first meeting of the 2021-2022 VAST programing. Our speaker this month will be Justine Wollaston, a very versatile artist who resides in the Pilot Point area. The title of her talk is "Staying Unstuck: How to Evolve with Art". She will talk about ways to keep the art adventure thriving and expansive.

Wollaston describes herself as "a semi-professional creative" but she makes all kinds of art. She is best known for her murals and large blue horse sculptures. Wollaston also writes and speaks about art and creativity, makes fun short films, and has recently added 'actor' to her resume. Reading entries on her facebook, you find that she is also a thoughtful poetic writer about her art and life. Justine is a proponent of life as a work of art.

Note to attendees: The PAAC will have seats with socially distant space and they also require that you wear a face covering. If you cannot attend in person, the meeting will be streamed on the VAST Facebook page. Click button below Justine's artwork or search for "visual arts society of Texas" in Facebook.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Artists of all levels will savor these forgotten approaches to painting. We will explore fascinating ways of using pigments that reveal secrets from the old masters. Demonstrations and one-on-one instruction will magnify your knowledge of the ancient and contemporary world of watercolor. Using primary colors as glazing reveals how to make the most out of yellow, red and blue.

Watercolor monotypes will cap the workshop experience. Many of my students like to call this experience “the bomb” – meaning that it’s the most exciting conclusion to a workshop they’ve ever experienced. Even if you have done “watercolor monotypes” before, you’ve never done it THIS way. You will love the wonderful, fulfilling traditional practice that watercolor painters rarely experience……hold on, because this will set you on fire! Participating artists will use a printing press and printing plates provided by the instructor.
Watercolor paint and special paper is all you’ll need!

You are encouraged to pursue your own interests in subject and style ranging from still life, landscape, portraits to abstraction. Just be happy – paint whatever you want to! Bring a portfolio and works in progress - bring slides or photos of your work, too! The instructor is interested in what advice YOU need from her in this workshop. Enjoy learning new ways to create AND strengthen your own style.
