Lunch Break: A Kitten’s Triumph Against the Odds

Lunch Break wasn’t just any kitten; he was one of six tiny, helpless bottle babies brought to Longmont Humane Society. With their mother nowhere in sight, the kittens relied entirely on our amazing foster heroes for survival. These foster families are absolute rock stars when it comes to caring for bottle babies—feeding them every few hours, keeping them warm, and offering constant attention. However, shortly after their arrival, the entire litter tested positive for panleukopenia, a devastating and often fatal virus that’s especially dangerous for kittens so young – only about 10% of affected kittens survive.

Our foster families did everything in their power to care for these vulnerable little ones. They provided diligent, round-the-clock care, but panleukopenia paired with the already fragile nature of bottle babies makes survival a real challenge. Despite their best efforts, Lunch Break was the only one of the litter to survive. His resilience was nothing short of a miracle.

Lunch Break has now been adopted into a loving furrever home. He is happy and healthy and playing like a kitten should.

Lunch Break’s journey is a testament to the strength of these tiny fighters and the unwavering dedication of our foster heroes. His story is one of hope, resilience, and the power of love and care—even when the odds are stacked against them.

Your compassion and support for animals in need make happy endings like Lunch Break's possible!

A Journey of Trust: Norma & Stevie's Perfect Match

ā€Š

We love sharing updates like this! Anna adopted sweet Norma in 2022 after the energetic pup was returned to Longmont Humane Society. Norma’s previous home was in an apartment, and she needed more space to play and thrive. Anna and our Training and Behavior Modification team collaborated to find solutions for Norma to have a more successful outcome with appropriate exercise and enrichment, so Anna could adopt her despite living in an apartment. And after a year filled with love and adventures, Anna decided Norma needed a friend.

In 2023, Anna visited LHS and found Stevie, a deaf dog who our TBMD team had marked as not appropriate for apartment life due to barking when left alone. But once again, Anna's determination and love for her pups won the day. She and our team worked together so that Stevie, too, could have the best life with her and Norma.

Now, a year later, the best part of this story? Anna’s family, including Norma and Stevie of course, are moving into their own home—complete with plenty of space for zoomies! Here’s what Anna had to say about her growing family:

ā€œWe are moving to a bigger place in Boulder finally! So my precious pups Stevie and Norma (LHS alumni) will be able to have the zoomies and wrestle without knocking things over, LOL. As you know Stevie is deaf but that has never held him back. I’ve seen his confidence and obedience grow every day! He doesn’t bark when left alone as long as his sister Norma is present. He’s the best boy!! There’s no one who’s met Stevie who doesn’t love him. Norma is a goofy girl who seriously will not snuggle even though she looks like a snuggler and has the size for it - LOL! We love her!

I really appreciate your training team believing in me when I said I love this deaf dog and will take care of him and love him forever! Thank you for believing in my ownership skills and trusting in my love of dogs to let me adopt both Norma and Stevie even though we live in an apartment. I can’t imagine life without them!

I will be forever grateful! I hope you all will continue having trust. LHS rocks!" -Anna

Wishing this family many more years of happiness in their new home!
