Along with everything pumpkin spice flavored, Autumn’s arrival also brings a season of reunions as many of us gingerly step out of isolation, head Back to School or return to in-person work. The joy experienced in reuniting is so powerful Jesus even encourages it in the parables of the missing sheep, lost coin, and prodigal son (Luke 15). He says, “Rejoice with me” and repeatedly invites us to pause and celebrate with him in thankfulness.
Healthy relationships and reunifications of families post-incarceration is something our wealth of partner organizations work to facilitate. The number of families needing assistance continue to rise as more than 5 million US children will lose a parent to prison or jail by the time they turn 14 years old.* Fortunately, most detained parents will eventually be released and programs such as the Turning Leaf Project are giving them the chance to positively change the trajectory of their lives and their families’ futures.
Offering a proven path for a successful reentry, the Turning Leaf Project provides rehabilitation, education, and opportunities for employment training and job placement. Graduates are gainfully employed and able to provide for their children, leading lifestyles they can all be proud of.
These are transformations and reunions we can all rejoice in and celebrate, and we encourage you to read on to learn more about our partners making a significant impact in families lives across the country.
