🚨Potential Nike Data Breach🚨

Nike is investigating a major cyber incident after the WorldLeaks extortion group claimed it stole 1.4TB of internal design and manufacturing data. No customer or employee records appear to be involved, but the leak could fuel counterfeits and disrupt product plans.

  • What happened: The WorldLeaks extortion crew says it grabbed 1.4TB of Nike’s internal files, including 188,000+ documents tied to product design, manufacturing workflows, and factory processes.
  • Nike’s response: The company confirmed it is investigating a potential cybersecurity incident and assessing the scope. It has not validated the attackers’ claims.
  • What data was exposed: Early samples point to design files, training materials, garment-making processes, and production documentation. These are highly sensitive from a competitive standpoint.
  • What was not exposed: There is no indication of customer or employee personal data, which reduces regulatory fallout but still poses serious business risks.
  • Why it matters: Stolen design and manufacturing data can accelerate counterfeits, reveal future product plans, and expose supply-chain vulnerabilities. WorldLeaks is known for data-theft extortion without encryption, pressuring victims by threatening public leaks.

Today's Cool Tip

Explore Search Trends with Gemini

Turn raw search data into instant insight with AI-powered explanations, comparisons, and context that save hours of research.

Google Trends has long been the gold standard for understanding what the world is searching for, but finding the exact right terms to compare has always been a manual, trial-and-error process.

Here's a Cool Tip:  Use Google Trends Now with Gemini.

A new integration with Gemini now automates the heavy lifting, instantly suggesting relevant comparisons and explaining the "why" behind the data.

Why You Should Care

  • Instant Context: Gemini explains why a topic is trending, not just that it is trending.
  • Better Comparisons: Automatically generates up to eight relevant comparison terms (e.g., searching "dog breeds" auto-populates "Golden Retriever," "Poodle," etc.).
  • Time Saver: Eliminates the guesswork of finding related keywords for market research or content planning.

Feature Explanation

The "Explore with Gemini" feature is a new side panel integrated directly into the Google Trends Explore page.

Instead of manually typing in five different search terms to see how they stack up, you can now enter a broad topic or question. Gemini analyzes your input and uses its semantic understanding to populate the comparison graph with the most relevant sub-topics or related queries.

It essentially acts as a junior data analyst.

You give it a broad directive, and it sets up the charts, selects the variables, and even offers a summary of what the data suggests.

This allows journalists, marketers, and curious users to move from a vague idea to a concrete data visualization in seconds.

Step-by-Step Instructions

How to Use It (Web)

  1. Go to trends.google.com and select the Explore tab from the main menu.
  2. Look for a new side panel or a prominent "Suggest search terms" button near the top input bar.
  3. Instead of a specific keyword, type a general category (e.g., "Vegan desserts" or "2026 Technology Tip Trends").
  4. Gemini generates a list of specific search terms (up to eight).
  5. Click the generated terms to populate the main graph. Gemini may also provide a short textual summary explaining the relationship between these terms.
  6. Use the follow-up prompts suggested by Gemini to dig deeper into a specific niche.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Reduces Bias: AI might suggest relevant competitors or terms you personally wouldn't have thought to include.
  • Speed: Turns a 15-minute research session into a 1-minute query.
  • Accessibility: Makes complex data comparison accessible to non-analysts.

Cons

  • Hallucination Risk: As with all LLMs, Gemini might occasionally suggest terms that are semantically related but effectively irrelevant to your specific goal.
  • Desktop First: Mobile users may have to wait for the full experience.
  • Limited Historical Context: The AI suggestions are excellent for current trends but may be less effective for obscure historical data prior to 2004.

Feature Access

  • Platform: Web (Desktop/Laptop recommended).
  • Cost: Free.
  • Rollout Status: Currently rolling out to users globally as of January 14, 2026. If you do not see it, check back in a few days.

Check out these Cool Tips & Tricks - Google Trends with Gemini:

  • Start Broad: Gemini thrives on general topics rather than specific keywords. Type "Outdoor hobbies" into the panel to let AI suggest the best specific terms to track.

  • Ask Naturally: You do not need to speak in Boolean search operators anymore. Type a natural question like "What are the top 2026 technology tip trends?" to get instant data.

  • Find Competitors: Automatically discover who your main rivals are in any niche. Enter your brand name and let Gemini populate the graph with similar companies.

  • Visualize Context: Understanding the "why" is as important as the "what" in data analysis. Read the AI-generated summary below the graph for a quick explanation of the trends.

  • Expand Scope: You might be missing related topics that are crucial to your research. Use the suggested terms list to add up to eight relevant keywords to your comparison instantly.

  • Drill Down: The first answer is often just the starting point for deeper research. Click the suggested follow-up questions to explore specific nuances of the topic.

  • Check Seasonality: Predicting the right time to launch a campaign is easier with historical data. Ask "When do people buy winter coats?" to see the precise seasonal search curve.

  • Filter Region: Trends vary significantly by location and culture. Ensure your location dropdown is set correctly before asking Gemini for local insights.

  • Combine Terms: You can manually add your own terms to the AI suggestions for a custom view. Type a specific keyword into the "Add comparison" box to see how it stacks up against the AI picks.

  • Verify Data: AI suggestions are powerful but should always be fact-checked. Hover over any data point on the graph to see the raw search volume numbers for accuracy.
