Prevention Starts with Families

A Message from Beech Brook President/CEO, Tom Royer

April marks Child Abuse Prevention Month—a reminder that protecting children starts with strengthening families.

At Beech Brook, we focus on prevention—providing families with the skills, support, and resources they need to build healthy relationships and safe home environments. When parents feel supported and connected, children are more likely to feel secure, valued, and able to thrive.

Programs like Healthy Relationships and our Family Center services are designed to meet families early, offering guidance before challenges escalate.

You can be part of this impact by attending Bash for the Brook (see below)—an opportunity to come together as a community and directly support the programs that help prevent child abuse before it begins.

Because of you, families don’t have to navigate challenges alone.

Thank you for standing with us.

Warmly,

Tom Royer, Beech Brook President/CEO

Preventing Child Abuse starts with Healthy Relationships

Child Abuse Prevention Month

Small, everyday moments can make a powerful difference in helping children feel safe, supported, and valued.

Did you know?

Positive relationships are one of the strongest protective factors against child abuse.

--------

đź’™ Tip: Take a moment each day to connect—ask a question, share a laugh, or simply listen.

Did you know?

Stress is one of the biggest challenges families face—and it can impact how adults respond in difficult moments.

--------

đź’™ Tip: Pause before reacting. Even a few seconds can help shift a response from reactive to supportive.

Did you know?

Children learn how to handle conflict by watching the adults around them.

--------

đź’™ Tip: Model healthy conflict—stay respectful, and show how to repair after disagreements.

Building strong, healthy relationships doesn’t always come naturally—but with the right support (like our Healthy Relationships Classes detailed below!) families can learn how to turn everyday moments into opportunities to connect.

Beech Brook Service Spotlight:

Healthy Relationships — Support That Makes a Difference

Our Healthy Relationships classes help parents and caregivers strengthen communication, understand conflict, and build more supportive relationships at home.

Through guided discussions and practical tools, participants learn how to:

  • Communicate more effectively—even during difficult moments
  • Recognize healthy vs. unhealthy relationship patterns
  • Manage conflict in ways that don’t harm children
  • Build stronger emotional connections within their families

These skills don’t just improve relationships—they help create safer, more stable environments where children can thrive.

When parents feel confident and supported, children thrive.
