Volusia-Flagler 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan Logo

The Volusia-Flagler 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) development is wrapping up this month. This plan will:

  • Identify future needs and improvements for pedestrian, bicycle, transit, highway, and freight mobility
  • Guide the expenditure of transportation funds
  • Ensure new transportation improvements meet community values
  • Prioritize transportation projects
  • Promote safe and efficient transportation services

On the Move: August TPO Adventures in Outreach

Fitting Fun: 108 Kids Receive Bike Helmets in Deltona

The Deltona Regional Library was buzzing with excitement on August 1st as families gathered for the annual Back to School Carnival—an event filled with fun, resources, and safety education. Among the highlights was the bicycle helmet fitting area, where TPO staff ensured 108 children left ready to ride safely.

With a line of eager kids and parents looking on, the TPO staff carefully adjusted each helmet for a snug, secure fit—because a helmet only works if it’s worn correctly.

This effort was a true team collaboration. Assisting the TPO staff were Victor Ramos, Deltona BPAC member, and Bob Storke, BPAC and CAC member representing Orange City.

Events like this bring the community together and reinforce the importance of bicycle safety as students head back to school. Thanks to the teamwork and dedication of staff and volunteers, 108 children now have the confidence to ride protected and prepared.

Walking and Rolling Safely into the School Year

On August 2nd, the Volusia-Flagler TPO joined forces with the Flagler County Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) at the Flagler County Back to School Jam held at Flagler-Palm Coast High School. The focus was on bicycle and pedestrian safety, providing families with helpful resources, fun safety swag, and plenty of important conversations about staying safe while walking and biking.

Pamela Blankenship, TPO staff, and Flagler County Chair and CTST Chair Andy Dance spoke with parents and students about simple, effective ways to make every trip a safe one. With school back in session, events like this help families head into the new year informed, prepared, and ready to travel safely.

Stopping for Safety: A Crosswalk Reminder

On August 22, the Volusia Flagler TPO joined the Flagler Beach Police Department and Bike/Walk Central Florida for a sign-waving pedestrian safety awareness event at Oceanshore Boulevard and Gamble Rogers State Park in Flagler Beach.

This intersection prompts serious safety concerns, as fewer than 30% of drivers stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk at that location. As part of the Best Foot Forward for Pedestrian Safety Program, partners raised awareness with sign-waving safety reminders that encourage and remind drivers to yield and keep our roads safer for all.

Vision Zero Action Plan

Even though we have adopted our Vision Zero Action Plan (VZAP), that doesn't mean we are finished! We are strongly committed to eliminating traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries in our community by 2050.

To keep you informed and involved, we have launched an interactive StoryMap — a dynamic tool you can access anytime. Here’s what you’ll find on the StoryMap:
