TRAC extensively records all bomb related activity worldwide, year around, to include viable detonated IEDs, viable planted IEDs that never exploded, IED threats, as well as IED hoaxes. TRAC Analyst Kelsey Tamplin, delved deeper by creating a map of all bomb related incidents in the United States for 2019, which offered a comparison of actual viable IEDs to empty threats. The highest states were North Carolina with 29, New Jersey with 27 and Pennsylvania at 25. A common threat was found in schools where students, parents or people in the community threatened the campuses but did not have the intention to carry out the attack. Tamplin's analysis emphasized that numbers can be misleading, stating that the state with the highest number of IED threats had a much lower percentage of actual threats that contained an actual device with potential to cause destruction.
